Rectal bleeding : hemorrhoids or anal fissure ?
Posted: 08-01-07 00:38am

I have been experienceing rectal bleeding when I wipe. There are not huge amounts of blood, but small bright red streaks. I see it everytime I wipe now. Most of the time there is no pain accompained with this. I have also noticed occasionally that there has been a runny mucus discharge when try to have a bowel movement. I don't know if this is unrelated, but a few weeks ago i had a bowel movement on accident and had no control over it. This could also be unrelated- but I pee a lot. Sometimes its every 10mins, sometimes is every few hours. I wake up at night to go to the bathroom, and often times when I try to pee nothing comes out. Is this something to be conserned about? Should I go to the doctor? What is causeing this? Thank-you!

Rectal bleeding (rectorrhagia) can be caused by hemorrhoids. Anal fissures can also cause rectal bleeding. Anal mucous discharge is probably due to rectum inflammation (proctitis). Hemorrhoids and fissures are usually accompanied by an infection. You can request a physical examination from your GP to diagnose your symptions.

Frequent peeing or urination in small quantities of urine (or none at all) could be caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI). You can also request a urine examination to confirm or exclude a possible UTI.
