Sex After Hysterectomy
Posted: 08-01-07 13:07pm

I have large fibroids causing major bleeding (blood loss so bad the doctors have been debating transfusion for the last month & a half). I have to make a decision whether to try for a myomectomy or a hysterectomy.

I haven't heard much discussion re implications for sex/sexuality after hysterectomy. My doctor says that since he'd leave my ovaries, I'd still be able to orgasm normally--but does sex itself still feel good/normal?? I'll be really angry if I not only lose my chance at childbearing (I'm 39), but also have a lousy sex life afterward (sex is about much more than just orgasm). If anyone can tell me about their experience--did it significantly change your sex life, sensation, etc., I'd be most grateful--I have to schedule surgery this week! Thanks!!

I had a partial hysterectomy about 9 years ago when I was about 31. I haven't noticed any change what so ever in my life, health, sex life. I love not having a period, especially since I was bleeding buckets for the months before the surgery. I had a lot of fibroids in my uterus.

My sex life isn't what I'd like, but it wasn't before the surgery, either. I don't have any pain and I don't turn my husband down. His drive is less with age and stress. I orgasm just fine and don't think I've noticed any change in the way I get there. Vagina touches still feel the same.

hi, your sex life will be pretty much the same, you will have orgasms and everything, you will loose though, the feeling of contraction inside your uterus, that is the sensation of clutching, but your partner won't feel the difference at all, and you will still have great enhancing orgasms.

I had my uterus and cervix removed in Sept abdominally. I still want sex but the 2 times that I have had since sx it has been uncomfortable and with some bleeding. It feels like he is hitting something and it hurts. I have MD appt 1/24 and have many questions. If anyone has any comments please post Txs.
