Q: Induction On Friday

welllllll. i'm a little bit mad right now to say the least. just when i was sailing along toward a nice low risk labour...i got my induction date for friday anyway, so at least i know that much. the thing is they will bump me if they are too full. i really hope i go in on my own before that. i had another membrane sweep today and my regular doc did it and she was much more gentle than the other guy. she said i'm having a very big baby and she was concerned about my blood pressure and swelling. now i'm being categorized as high risk because i am so far past my due date and may have some blood pressure issues as well as a big baby. nice huh?? so i get the motel 8 treatment and likely an induction and maybe a c-section if things don't go well. blah. i'm trying to stay positive and will be doing my best to be prepared for whatever happens but right now i'm pretty grumpy. oh and to top it all off i haven't dilated any more. I'm still at 3 cm!!!! all that walking and pressure and pain got me nowhere. Evil or Very Mad grrrrr.

Well, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you! You could still have a fine labor, even if you do end up being induced. I have heard many people say its possible. I know exactly how you feel, though. Keep your feet up, keep hydrated, and keep having those nooners. I won't be around after today, so I will be excited to see your baby photos when I get back! Good luck!

oh Karen, I am so sorry things arent going the way you want them too, but believe me when I say holding you baby will bring you so much love and you will be so proud of yourself no matter how s/he came into the world!. Also big babies are healthy babies Smile I was told Lucas was going to be big and he popped out tipping the scales at 6lbs 7ozs so they can be wrong.
I hope now baby knows the time is up s/he will decide to move its butt on its own and give you the break you deserve. If not just stay positive as you always seem to be... and remember your going to be a mommy by the weekend Wink

thanks ladies. i am 8 days overdue now (i think?, lol) so it's just wearing me down a bit. i'm sure after i've had some time to adjust i will bounce back and be ready for whatever, i'm just a little worried and disappointed today. but you are all right, i will have my baby soon and i am happy that baby is big and seems to be doing okay. i just have this weird feeling today that it's a boy for some reason. maybe because it's big and the heart rate has always been a bit low. just a hunch because i have no clue really, lol. i guess i have a 50% chance of being right Wink . thanks for letting me vent though and thanks for the labour dust i hope it works!!

god i wish i could sleep. i can't stop thinking about tomorrow. i keep wondering, what if i refused the induction?? i'm just worried about things snowballing and leading to me having a c section. i keep trying to tell myself that anything can happen and even if i went in natural to begin with, i may still end up with a c section. i'm just not totally convinced that my due date is accurate or that this induction is medically necessary. i heard my doctor on the phone and she said that the dates are good and the u/s confirmed the due date (it was actually half a week off). the u/s tech and the doctor are both telling me the baby is really big but i know that they are often wrong and that it is a guess. the doctor also told me that i am 3cm dilated and my cervix is soft and that makes me a good candidate for induction. i just wish i could trust the doctor and know that she is doing this for a good reason and not just to get it over with. i want to ask the doctor all of these things but she never has time to talk about anything with me. it all just seems so rushed and i feel like i'm inconveniencing her when i ask questions. i also have about 30 people waiting and calling every day asking when i'm gonna have this kid. i just feel so pressured!!! aaaaahhhhhh!!! ok panic time is over. lol. Wink

Hey hun, just take some time to calm down Wink. If your feeling nervous then thats to be expected. I am sure you doctor wouldnt have booked you in today if they didnt think they had given you enough time on your own. You are tired and frustrated so let them give you alittle help! What time is your induction sheduled for? Do you have to stay in hospital to wait for it to work or are you allowed home in between treatments? (I know over here you are generally kept in)

Is there any reason why you think the induction wont be successful? Loads of women have to be induced and go on to have a normal labour without the worry of a csection. I take it they will start trying you with picton gel? If so, you will still be able to move around and experience labour literally as you would if you went on your own, and as you are so overdue then it is highly likely to work for you.

I know its a scary time and your mind has gone into overdrive but the midwives and doctors will be there to look after you and they have your best interests at heart so trust them and just look forward to your long awaited meeting with your new little person. Could you call the hospital and talk over your concerns with a doctor or midwife? They wont mind and they maybe able to put your mind at rest, you have every right to be reassured.

I have been getting hundreds of phone calls too, just now I had my friend on the phone saying she was coming down at the weekend (she lives a huge drive away) She actually told me that it would be really good if I could have this child by the wk/end as then she will be able to see it, because if not she doesnt know when she'll be next down.... ok then, I'll just pop it out on cue for you then!! Rolling Eyes . I swear some people dont think.
Just take some time out for yourself today and try to relax. I am truely wishing you the best, it will all soon be over and you'll be wondering what you were stressing for!!

thanks! you're right of course. i'm just nervous and a little scared of the unknowns. you try so hard not to expect anything specific but you end up having expectations anyway. i had imagined myself going into labour and labouring at home before going to the hospital. it hadn't occured to me that i would be induced. so last night i was googling it (usually a bad idea i know, lol). everything i was reading was saying that it can make your contractions stronger and lead to an epidural which can lead to a stalled labour and a c section and blah blah blah. i guess i am just very averse to having another surgery only a few months after the last one. i feel like i never really recovered fully from it because of the pregnancy and i still feel bad that the baby had to go through all of that with the drugs and such. i also worry about not being able to care for the baby on my own when rich has to go back to work.

the silly thing is my mom was induced for all of us and had natural labours anyway. and me and my eldest brother were over 9 lbs as well. i just have questions that no one can answer so i was having a moment of panic there. i feel better now that i have slept and i am feeling ready to go in and hopefully deliver this big ole baby finally. i wanna know who is in there!!! thank you for your reassurance it really helps, especially since you have experience giving birth already. now i just have to wait and see what they say when they call. if they cancel on me i'm gonna go jump off a building. Laughing kidding.

I had to be induced, even tho I had started contractions at 4 that morning and started losing my mucous plug. But I didn't dialate very quick at all. And once I got almost completely dialated and was able to push....we didn't progress then either. My child was stubborn and I did end up with a c-section, and it really wasn't bad at all. After a long day they took me in and 10 minutes later I finally got to see my baby. To me it was easier, and it wasn't even that bad for recovery. I know you want to go as natural as possible, but try not to get upset if it doesn't go all natural, in the end you still get your baby, and that baby grew in your belly. Good luck.

If they cancel I think I'll jump with you Laughing

I know what you mean about the expectation thing. I had the same with my first, just to find out that it was going to be a planned csection.
When I was induced with Lucas, I knew nothing of what was going to happen because I was induced at 38 weeks I hadnt felt the need to look into it.
I went into not knowing about the stronger contractions etc. My labour ended up that way but because it was the first time I had experienced it I didnt know any different I just thought thats how labour was supposed to be!!
I am glad having a rest has made you feel better about it... now go have that baby!! Smile
