I'm here! (an hour and a bit later!)
I had an endoscopy yesterday, so I feel
like crap.
Congrats on the pregnancy! I forgot to
post in the other thread. I'm so excited
for you, Finn, and Nick!

I've had Gastroesophogeal Reflux Disorder
(GERD) since I was 8. Basically, it's
chronic heartburn because I over-produce
stomach acid. The only problem with this
is that I didn't say anything about it
until I was 10, so I went for two years
with stomach acid splashing up into my
esophagus. I've been on medication since I
was 10, and it changes the ph of the acid
so that, while I can still digest food, it
doesn't burn as badly when I have reflux.
Apparently they are diagnosing this a lot
in infants, and that makes me want to cry.
It's no fun.
An endoscopy is when they take a camera
and take pictures of your esophagus. It's
got some really big technical name for the
specific procedure they did but I don't
remember it. It had something to do with
"esophogeal" in it but that's basically
it. I was put under anesthesia and then
intubated, and then they did the camera
thing. So it hurts to swallow AND to
breathe! I have had 5 Slurpees since like
4:30 yesterday!
I'm glad they did it, though, because they
found nodules (bumps) at the base of my
esophagus where it meets my stomach. This
is probably scar tissue from the acid
burning away at it for so long, but they
took a couple of them to do a biopsy.
They'll have my results in a month or so.
And apparently I don't clot properly. When
they took out my IV, it just bled, and
bled, and bled some more. Yesterday was,
on the whole, not a good day for me.
Sorry for all the complaining! I didn't
realize I sounded as whiny as I did until
after I typed it all out!

martha, i'd say i'm jealous that you'll be
meeting terra, but i had my chance and
blew it! well, the first time she blew it!
third time's a charm though, i'll meet her
next time she's here!
nat, you don't sound whiny at all. that
sounds like an awful thing to have to go
through for so long. i hope you feel
better soon! keep drinking those slurpees!

I'm here too. Just a little busy at work
today. I'm trying to tie up all loose
ends before I go on maternity leave.
Everybody has finally realized that I only
have a couple of weeks left, so now
everybody needs something ASAP!!!!

aww tdr that sucks.
my mom is an RN and the clinical
coordinator for the endoscopy department
where she works, so I've seen how
uncomfortable those procedures can be.
Were you consciously sedated? or did they
put you to sleep. The poor people who are
sedated but awake fight so hard against
the scope, they try to pull it out .
I was trying to remember the name of your
procedure (shame on me I should know it if
I'm going to do this as a profession one
day) but the only ones that come to mine
are bronchoscopy, EGD (stands for
esophagogastroduodenoscopy), and
colonoscopy.
bridget, if your bored, I don't know if it
would feasible to go to the movies? The
Simpson's is out and it was amusing.
or you could get
the movie 300, if you haven't seen it yet
and are into that kind of stuff.

I had the EGD, Shasta. I was put under
completley so I have no recollection of
the actual procedure. I remember going in
and the whole mask deal, and I remember
waking up in recovery with a screaming
child in the bed next to me.
All in all, not a pleasant experience. I
have to have one every 1-2 years depending
on the results of the biopsy.

Ive had a down couple of days so Ive been
trying to keep myself busy. Family are in
Spain on holiday, so Ive been taking jay
to their house all day where he has more
things to do. And ive been busy gardening
Theres these 2 huge bushes that attract
all the wasps and im sick of running
indoors scared every 10 minutes, and dont
want to pass my fear onto jay more than I
already have. So Ive been gradually
cutting them down. Started yesterday and
today it looks like someone used a
chainsaw on them hehehe! My mums going to
kill me when she gets back I
used ladders and a pair of sheres. Im worn
out and jays really sick tonight, high
temp and stomach ache.

I am not a oldie, but not a newbie either.
I'm working full time again during the day
and that has been super busy. I spend my
evenings playing with and adoring Jaylon.
He's eating solids, so there is so much
more to do.
It's been so freakin hot, I don't feel
like doing anything.
