On the Verge of a Crohn's Flare Up
Posted: 08-05-07 10:18am

I am sorry to post this but I literally have nobody else to talk to about it. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Colitis about 10 years ago and since then have had no real periods of remission. I have also not been really ill very often, but I just don't seem to be able to get on top of it. I moved to Australia from the UK about 18 months ago and am finding it even harder here. I seem to have no response or bad reactions to many of the usual drugs prescribed: prednisolone always works but I get very depressed when I try and come off it and then find myself right back where I was, mezazaline and balsalazide did nothing at all, Asathiaprine put me in hospital with suspected pancreatitis, Pentasa just made me throw up, Methotrexate worked a bit but I came off it a year ago in the hope we could have more kids. I am currently on Budesonide which makes me feel better but I still have the diarrhea and constantly struggle to keep my weight up, plus I have to pay full price for it here in Australia. Infliximab really helped but it is $2000 a go here! I have tried two specialists here and neither of them even seemed interested in treating me. My husband is lovely but he just doesn't get it. My symptoms are getting worse, I'm feeling pretty dizzy and confused, I'm loosing weight rapdily and I can tell I am on the verge of a really big flare up. Anybody out there have any ideas at all?

Oh my gosh, if your symptoms are getting so severe you should see a doctor...now!
If you wait, it will only get worse, not better.

If at all possible try another doc and get a second opinion. There may be another doc who will treat you totally differently.
And there could be new meds available that you're unaware of. Confused
