After 4 children it becomes a danger to your health apparently, my friends mother has 5 children and as a direct result of that according to her doctor her uterus has collapsed and she has to have surgery and have it removed. Apparently that's quite common.

I,m on my 9th pregnancy and my uterus is fine thats just a scare tatic to ensure we are a 4.2 child nation

I think that's just a lie too; plenty of women overseas have lots of children and they don't have messed up uteruses. My Grandmother had 5 kids and she's fine. Her mother had 8!

"A lot of people believe 2 kids maximum because then you are only replacing yourself and your partner, so you arent contributing to the over population of our planet...just something I read recently. "

Would any of you consider the earth to be overpopulated right now?
Do we need to reduce the population?

If by over-populated you mean we are using to many resources and reaking havoc on our planet then yes, we are.

It's illegal to reduce the population, that's called murrder. And yes, it's clearly over populated. It's not an "over-all" overpopulation, it's regional. Many regions on Earth do NOT have the resources to support the current population.

maybe if we people were smarter and used our lifes to HELP the earth then overpopulation wouldnt be a problem...its because of how we live everyday and what we do
the choices we make
that effect this earth so badly

people are born every day and people die everyday
i dont think we are THAT over populated yet

I believe as long as you have the money, space, (Patience!!) that you should have as many kids as you want. I know I probably won't be having more than 2 though!

I have seen the duggers on TLC but the one thing that everyone has forgotten to mention is that they also have NO debt. Even the new house they moved to was paid for before they started to build it. Everything is paid as they go. I was also watching another show on TLC that's Children by the dozen and one of the shoes showed them going to a homeschooling event and meeting up with more families that has 10+ kids. Personally I'd adopt if I have anymore.

I wouldnt mind having that many kids bt i dont think my body can handle it. I have tooo many issues. Sad

Every woman's body is different. Some women's bodies can handle it.. others can't. You dont know if your's can till you do it. *shrug*

hi everyone, i see children as a blessing. i would have loved to have 10, we stopped at 4 due to difficult deliverys and 4 x heart problems.

i have a friend, they have 4 of their own birth children 3 of those are highneeds, autism, severe allergies on a gastro tube synthetic food for 7 years, they have fostered and adopted another 2. the latest one is a baby born 2 months premie, downs syndrome, heart trouble, liver trouble respiritory distess and to top it off leukaemia. baby is wired to a oxygen tube full time that reaches the length of the house. they have so much love they are asking for more children.

so how many is too many, that is a personal issue. i think it becomes communism when others decide how much children each family should be alocated due to personal beliefs. if you cannot provide for the children that is irresponsible, but as i have learnt with more children you become resourceful,

materialism tends to leave with bigger families as its about relationships rather than stuff. i know what values i would prefer. there is enough time for them to grow up and get their fancy car if they want to. i take my hat off to these people with lots of kids its a real test of character, patience, love.

hi we do not get the full story, alot of the problems we do have in the world are political. my husband is a cop. his first legal paper was debate saying there is enough grain in the west to feed the entire world, but certain govt organisations dictate to the farmers how much they are allowed to grow as this affects the $$$$.

If you look into some of the history of these nations with the issues, look at the politics involved. why is it that prospering nations deteriorate so rapidly when other countries borrow them money then hyperinflate debt.
big issues.

overpopulation, not where i live. i look outside and i have bare paddocks everywhere, if i yelled really loud a far neighbour may hear me,

It's definitely a personal choice.

I'm sure my body could handle 20 pregnancies, but I KNOW my mind/sanity couldn't.

I've seen the Duggar's and I honestly think they are crazy. But they have a show on now called 'Kids by the Dozen' that show OTHER families that have more than 12 children. It must take a lot of love and determination to go through that many pregnancies. Then again, most of them say that hardest time was when they had 5-6-7 kids under the age of like 8. But once they got older, they helped with the littler ones, which I don't think a 10yr old should have to do, but it's their choice.

I personally want 2-3. I'll just have to talk my hubby into because he wants to stop after this one.

It's too many when you already can't feed yourself or the children you already have without dipping into the taxpayers' pockets or soliciting for donations. If you can't feed the family members you already have, don't bring another one into it.

If you can't have another baby without stealing your children's childhood from them and forcing them to take over your role as parent, you're having too many. YOU are the parent, and there's more to that then knocking your wife up or giving birth. If you find your attention too divided between the children you already have, it's a sign to hold off and either practice self control or learn how to use contraceptives.

Other than that, breed all you want. As long as you can afford them and do your job as a parent it's none of my affair.

*edited for clarification: I mean "you" in the general sense, not in the sense that I'm referring to anyone in here. Thought I should add that now before anyone takes it personally. Wink
