Sonograms Fetal Age Vs. Gestational Age Posted: 08-07-07 22:56pm
Okay so here's a question....when you go
and get your sonogram...and the tech tells
you that you are 18 weeks and 4 days
pregnant...is that 18 weeks 4 days
gestational age and 16 weeks and 4 days
fetal age due to the extra two weeks
counted for the 2 weeks pre-ovulation...or
is it 20 weeks 4 days gestational age, 18
weeks and 4 days fetal? I know this is
confusing, I just didn't know if they were
measuring the baby's development,..and how
accurate ultrasounds are when checking for
fetal age and so on...can anyone help me
with this? please...thanks

I'm pretty sure when the tech tells you
the measurements it's by gestational age
and not fetal age. Very few sources go by
fetal age, I think, mostly it's
gestational age. I was told the baby
measured 20 weeks 4 days at my big
ultrasound by the tech, done when I was 20
weeks 5 days gestational age.
