Re: Missing the Point

I think you really miss the point when you state that men do not have to face the same "punishment" as women in a pregnancy. By "Punishment" are you referring to the 9 months of pregnancy and the actual childbirth? If so, freakin' good grief! So for that "punishment" to be taken away the woman simply punishes the unborn baby with an execution. When a doctor deals with a pregnant woman he deals with TWO patients (as per a US surgeon general Koop who was a specialist in doing in utero surgeries on unborn babies). No matter what 9 months of pregnancy and even a difficult birth are no match for an outright execution. Let the killing stop.

Pardon me for asking, but are you male or female? Have you ever carried a child for 40 weeks and then delivered? I wish to ask these questions before I respond further.

Abortion was so awful and emotional because of it I never had children.. So I can't compare.. I have seen a baby born, and it looks pretty painful, but also joyful at the same time..

What's "worse"?

That's an opinion reserved for the person facing either/or.

That is not a simple question, and it will be answered differently by every single woman who becomes pregnant.

You think that all pregnancy's are punishment, sorry if you feel that way. I enjoyed carrying my two and having them.
It is not a baby until birth.
Abortion is not execution, sorry you feel this way! Sometimes abortion is necessary!
Are you a male?

Every time I hear someone say this, especially if they are male, I just wish they could go through pregnancy and birth themselves. I also wish that the women who feel this way could step into the shoes of a terrified teen who didn't know she could get pregnant the first time.

It is a distinct lack of perspective that makes people think that abortion is worse than pregnancy.

Good for you!

But some women hate it, and there's really nothing you can - or should - do to change their opinion. It is their right to hate puking every day, to have back aches, to pee constantly, and to be unable to get a good night's sleep. Everyone experiences pregnancy differently. Some women breeze through it, other women suffer through it.

Personally, I think every pregnancy is different and to end the story with a baby is a gift. I do believe in prochoice too, but only for those who take precaution. Some abortions I agree with Like when a woman finds out that the baby is having problems, when a woman was raped, when a woman is extreamly sick or young. I just don't agree with the having sex.. OPPS got to go to the clinic. I don't know, it's a persons choice and who am I to say... I just know that right now if I got pregnant.. I would live everyday excited to meet my baby, and be happy that the baby is there. I would probably talk to it and be so happy. Yes, I understand some pregnant woman have a hard time, but when you look at the big picture its worth it.. Just my opinion though.

So in conclusion.. I believe that abortion or pregnancy can be equal punishment.. REALLLLLLLLY depends on what you make of your pregnancy or abortion. Depends on the reasons or the feelings etc.

Also, a pregnancy or an abortion could be an equal blessing. Again depends on what you make of it..

I don't understand; either you are for it or against it; the outcome is no different regardless of the mother's circumstances-in regards to rape or "just sex".

Know what I mean, Vern? Wink

LOL that made me think of lavern and shirley!

So, shirly!
I really am confused.. Mostly prochoice partly pro life.. I don't really care which ever way. I personally think that if people are being stupid and getting pregnant and just thinking of it as nothing and getting lots of abortions. I realllllly disagree. I do agree with abortion when it's used for a good reason. I think that its a great option for people who have been raped, sick people or if the baby is having problems.. I just think being raped and getting pregnant wasn't the womans choice, but having unprotected sex and getting pregnant and just going for a abortion is her choice.. So, in away that would make me prochoice, but then against prochoice.. HOW ABOUT PRO REASON?

I think it's a very logical position to have. The thing about pro-choice is that it is NOT pro-abortion...

Oh, I meant like "Vern" as is those movies..."Vern goes to Camp" and all that stuff. Children of the 80's stuff. Hypercolor shirts...rolled up jeans... y'know. Wink

Basically, what I'm saying is that I don't think you should be picking and choosing which abortions are justified and which aren't by their process of coming into being-the end result is the same. A human is killed. If abortion isn't okay by your standards because a woman wasn't being careful, isn't that just a form of punishment for the woman?

If abortion is okay because she was raped, does that make the child she carries less "worthy" than the one conceived by consent?

Does that make sense? Either abortion is okay or it's not, simply because the end result is exactly the same, regardless of circumstance.

Unless you want to keep the little waif, I would say that abortion is a lot easier than pregnancy...for the following reasons:

With abortion, you:

- aren't sick and bloated and fat for nine months (5-6 tops and then it's self-surgery coat hanger time after that cut-off date)

- can change your mind about your decision. For example, if you abort and decide ten years later to have a child, you can. If you keep the little snot and decide ten years down the road you hate them and want to get rid of them, you can't (imagine the flack you'd catch if you stuck a ten-year-old in the system; other options for getting rid of the kid are not legal). If you aren't ready for kids or don't want them, abortion offers the woman a second chance to get her life back on track and take better precautions.

- save money. What's $500 in comparison to the estimated $200,000 you'll spend caring for a kid for 18 years?

- keep your genitals intact. Ask any man who has witnessed his wife/GF give birth vaginally how he feels about having sex with a wet parachute.

And hey, some pregnancies are like punishment. There are sick people who will attempt to teach their 'evil promiscuous' daughters not to have sex by forcing her to keep her pregnancy and the baby. Women can't even be considered for abortion until they're at least six weeks along, and that six weeks of heaving and overall malaise pregnancy brings on can be torturous to any woman. Some women suffer potentially fatal conditions during pregnancy, like hyperemesis (excessive vomiting) and pre-ecclampsia.

Yes, some women are creaming their panties over thinking about the arrival of their little waif, but that doesn't mean that all pregnancies are blessed gifts. I personally would rather have an abortion ever day for nine months than be pregnant.
