I'm a 25 yr old white male, not
overweight, and have not lost any weight,
but scared.
I've been struggling with constipation for
about two and a half months now and it's
finally starting to scare me. At first I
was told that I may have Celiac disease,
but I now fear that it's not what I have.
I was going to order an at home "poop
test" to test for celiac when I was paid.
I started feeling better after (the
abdominal pain i was experiencing went
away) I had made that decision. I didn't
cut out the gluten from my diet and the
pain went away telling me that it wasn't
celiac causing my constipation.
I've been having to take suppositories to
have a normal bm. If I don't take a
suppos. I feel like I don't have any push
to get out a bm. When I do take a
suppository, it feels like I have great
pressure in my rectum and my poop looks
normal and is normal size. (normal
except for mucous all over it)
If I try and squeeze it out w/o a
laxative, it is a little smaller in
diameter and I won't go much. When I
first started feeling symptoms that was
first thought of as Celiac, I saw a small
and clear pouch-like thing full of what
seemed to be blood. I'm not even sure it
was blood, it seemed a little too thin and
not as red as blood should be. I've been
studying my poo ever since and I haven't
been able to distinguish finding blood in
my poo at all, nor has any been in the
bowl or on the tp. Yesterday I had a
slightly reddish looking poop, but I don't
know for sure if it was blood because the
night before I drank a whole big can of V8
vegetable juice. Could that cause the poo
to be red? Or was that blood? I didn't
have any blood on the tp, bowl, or
anywhere else.
I'm starting to feel back pain as if it
related to my problem. The pain radiates
from my lower back in the middle toward
the sides, mainly the left.
My pain is relieved temporarily when I
have a bm. I noticed when I lie down the
pain/pressure is relieved also.
Lately, I haven't had any pain in my
abdomen, except for the constant feeling
like I'm either swollen or bloated in my
intestines. It doesn't hurt, but when I
hunch over it feels like I'm pinching my
intestines inside me with my ribcage or
something.
I've been trying not to take laxatives to
go, but lately it's been necessary because
I've been trying to clean myself out
because I got really plugged up about a
week ago when I tried to increase my food
intake in hopes that it would push
everything out and make my bowels work
better. Totally not the case. I had to
take a suppository to get myself to go,
and I never actually get everything out
with one suppository. And it's not just a
feeling, I do go enough to constitute and
a good bm, but it's not enough for what
I've ingested and what I've pooped out.
I feel pretty cleaned out now and I still
have a bloated feeling. Rather than being
celiac, to me it sounds or feels like it
could be ulcerative colitis or crohn's
except that i haven't had diarhea, I've
been nothing but constipated. I'm also
starting to really worry that I have
rectal or colon cancer.
Oh, I've had a bout of lactose intolerance
since I was a little kid. I was always
very gassy and I never thought it was a
problem. A few years ago I realized my
gassiness was caused by the milk. If I
drank too much I would get violent diahrea
and just gassy if I didn't drink too much.
Could this have a correlation to other
problems? I heard it could correlate with
celiac, could it correlate with anything
else? Could I have damaged myself
drinking milk and eating dairy all these
years?
I'm going through a difficult process to
get my insurance straightened out and
already owe my local hospital money
already. Should I just go in? Any advice
for me?

I feel your pain. Have you considered
consulting with a naturopath. I did and
this was a great choice for me. I was
instructed to change some of the foods
that I eat and then to do a colon
cleansing program. This helped with my
constipation and other medical syptoms.
Just a thought. Personally I prefer an
alternative route. Just another option for
you. Good luck and keep us posted on your
progress.

There is a website you can order a home
gene test for celiac disease. PM me for
the web address. Celiac disease normally
manifests as diarrhea, but that does not
mean it could not manifest in other ways.
Lactose intolerance is a symptom of having
it howerver, so i am suspicious. It is
quite possible that although you thought
you were doing a gluten free trial you
still were ingesting gluten. there are so
many hidden glutens out there in the food
supply it is very very hard to avoid.
Crohn's disease is associated with blood
in the stool, so that's a possibility if
you are finding blood in your stools. It
could also just be from constipation.
I totally hear you on the insurance issue.
I am frustrated by it as well. Note that
should you be found to have celiac disease
or crohn's disease you will be considered
uninsurable (happy note, huh?)
I think it would be worthwhile to go to a
physician and have some initial blood work
drawn. This can help start the narrowing
down process. Feel free to post back her
eif you have additional questions. Please
see also the sticky under "Celiac Disease"

Worsening Bowel Problems Posted: 09-28-07 04:53am
One thing that could create alot of your
problems is diviticulosis/diviticulitis.
One is the condition, the other is when it
becomes infected. The condition is when
your intestines (bowels) have small
pockets form in the walls of them and they
can trap food and become infected. You can
get alot of pain coming and going from gas
and or infection and constipation is a big
symptom of it. Have you run a fever at
all? If so, that might indicate that it is
infact infected. Diviticulosis is caused
by the walls of the intestines weaking
usually from alot of constipation over
time. Whether they have become infected or
not, the condition is still painful. I
myself have found alot of relief from
getting a colon cleanse program from the
health food store which I did for about a
month and will continue every couple of
months. There are two parts, one is a herb
supplement that you can take always, and
the other is a fiber tablet that you take
with the herb to actually "cleanse"
yourself. I personally would try doing
that before anything else because even if
it isn't diviticulosis, it won't hurt,
infact it will undoubtably help you alot
no matter what. Good luck and keep us
posted!! Also, try eating alot of fiber,
wild rice is excellent for promoting BMs,
and drinks lots of water!!
