Hi all ... this may be a silly question, but it is okay that I have been poking my abdomen to see if there is fetal movement? I press lightly, but I am scared that maybe pressing down so often has hurt the baby. Am I being silly?

How far along are you? Maybe it's just to early to feel fetal movement...

Yeah, if this is your first pregnancy you may not feel anything until 20-22 weeks.

You probably won't be feeling the baby this early. I didn't start feeling my little girl move on a regular basis until I was about 22-24 weeks along. Then, watch out!! The further along you get, the move you feel. It hurts sometimes, she kicks so hard.

Don't worry about poking around on your belly either. Everytime I go to the doctor, he pushes around quite a bit on my belly to see what position the baby is in.

I am almost 15weeks...and I can every so often feel a flutter or something moving near my uterus that isnt bowels. i think that is the extent to what you can feel this early.
Poking your tummy wont hurt anything...but kinda unnecessary!
Enjoy not feeling the baby for the time being hehe...like mamaT said..soon it will start to bother you. Kicking your ribs and such.

Is this your first baby? If so, the movement you're feeling is DEF gas. Not maybe, but DEF, gas.

Before I conceived my second child I had gas that would literally make my belly jerk on the inside. I even posted about how incredibly similar it was to a baby moving/kicking around in there!

I'm now 16 weeks with my second child and still can't feel movement. I know what to look for as far as movement, being a second time mommy. ANd yet, nothing.

I don't want to put a damper on what you believe. But, seriously, I highly doubt it's fetal movement. Just gas. Embarassed

Its definately not gas...I feel when I have gas and when the baby is fluttering around. Its a totally different sensation.
Even in the u/s I was feeling it and sure enough he was flopping around. After I sneeze of cough I get a little mini flutter feeling kick...super light.
It has never been a huge "jerk on the inside"... the flutters for me are right at the front of my uterus about an inch or two below my bellybutton...where as gas would be deeper in my tummy as the uterus is infront of the intestines and bowels.
If I am busy and going about my day I dont notice anything, its when I am sitting down and things are quiet etc that i can sense it.
I am sure as this little nugget gets bigger I will feel it nomatter what I am doin.
thx 4 sharin ur experience though!!

like I said, I didn't mean to offend or disclaim your beliefs. It's just hard to believe that a preggy mommy for the first time is feeling fetel movement at 14 weeks.

I'm not saying it's IMPOSSIBLE...just HIGHLY unlikely.

The movement goes from ahh, the joys of pregnancy. To, OH JESUS!! Cut me some slack..PLEASE! lol!

Reguardless, congrats on your pregnancy! We'll have our babies close together and our bellies will get big together!!! Wink

My favorit part is when they curl their toes up around your ribs and stick a fist through your pubic bone.
