Birth Control?

I know that my doctor is going to talk to
me about birth control options next time I
go for my check up, and I was wondering
what everyone thought was the best kind?
The kinds i'm talking about are the pill,
the patch, and the shot. Which kind do
you think is most effective and what kind
do you use or plan to use?

I plan to get on the shot when he is born
because it is supposed to be one of the
most effective types of b/c and you only
have to remember it every 3 months. Lol.
Taking a pill the same time every day is
too much for me to remember. And the
patch is my 2nd choice. I just like the
idea of 4 shots a year compared to 52
patches or 365 pills. Lol.

Good point. I heard the shot makes you
gain weight, is that true or just a
myth?

I've heard many people say they've put on
weight with the shot but you can too with
the pill.I'm on the mini-pill (progesteren
only) and I like it but it took my four
lots of pills to find one that suited. My
moms used the shot for 13years & she
thinks its great-no problems.
Check out the birth control forum &
read some of the posts-it should help a
lot

I was on the shot and I blew up like a
ballon. I didn't even look fat I just
looked swollen. Thats how I gain the
wieght that I could not get off for 3yrs.
The pill didn't work for me. The patch
you have to be very careful that it
doesn't come off.
Just becareful.

The shot usually makes people gain weight,
not all though! I have also heard that
the patch comes off quite easily. I
personally use the pill. The only
problem with the pill is if you take
prescriptions often it can mess with the
effectiveness of the pill. That is where
I am running into problems, as some of you
know I am on zoloft (anti-depressant) and
I am worried it is messing w/my pill. I
am currently considering an iud (inter
uterine device) but they are quite
costly!! They range from 350-400 just
for the iud. Insertion costs in the
range of 200-250. I have heard that no
insurances cover this. That might now be
true, but I have not known anyone whos
insurance has covered it. You can make
payment arrangments. The copper iud
lasts for up to 10 yrs and the hormonal
iud can last up to 5 years.

Wow...I guess I might just go with the
pill then. I'll just have to make a time
before I go to bed to take it, that way
i'll be home and it'll be the same time
every day.
Crystal
p.S. When you go for you 6 week check up,
what all do they check and do to you?

I guess it really depends on the person
but I personally know several people who
were extremly skinny and when they got on
the shot the gained alot of weight! I
often makes you not have a period but with
my mom she wouldnt have it for several
months then she would bleed for several
weeks!

I really like the pill, I didnt really
gain any weight from it and where I did it
was on my boobs so that was a plus makes your periods
nice and light and less painful but I
think its making my periods stop so im
going to the doctor next month. It might
take awhile for you to find the right
brand.
Good luck

I've been told that stopping your period
completely is unhealthy because when you
have a period, your body gets rid of
certain toxins. I dunno if it's just
rumor or the truth. Still...Anyone know
about the 6 week check up??

Hey
my doc actually said there is no harm from
having no periods while on birth control.
It simply means the lining of the uterus
hasnt grown enoough to shed when you
bleed. However I think i'll switch brands
of pill so I keep getting my period. I
like the reassurance.
My doc said they sometimes use the
particular pill im on to stop womens
periods if they are excessivly heavy or
painful.
But yeah, kinda of miss it
