No Concentration Or Drive? Posted: 08-17-07 13:18pm
I'm not sure what it is. Well maybe I am
(Depression) but i'm not sure on how to
act upon it. I have a great girlfriend,
great friends and great family. But I see
myself suffering from a few of the signs
of depression. Signs like not being able
to concentrate or make decisions? an not
having the drive to make better for
myself? I could do alot of things with the
job I do but choose to just do enough to
get by? I feel the old me would stop at
nothing to be the best at what I do but
now it's as if I don't care and just am
waiting for my breaks, you know? I get
irritable and just don't seem all that
happy all the time.
Everyone in my family has at one time been
on meds for depression except I. Mostly
because of a divorce but I always tried to
not be effected by it. All through high
school I basically smoked weed and got
high, kinda felt that was the only way to
relax. I've now been clean for almost a
year and a half and am starting to realize
these symptoms? any ideas on what to do or
if it is indeed depression?

Sorry no one responded, I just signed on
and found your post. If you feel you are
not up to par, you know yourself better
than anyone else. If you have a history of
depression in your family, it would not
hurt for you to see a Dr and at least talk
to them about it. Depression is not
something we can control ourselves, theres
a chemical imbalance up there and
sometimes it takes meds, short term or as
for me long term to stay on even kiln.
Even on meds I still have my "off"days
where I don't give a rats ass about
things, and I use to have all the drive in
the wrold. Maybe I am getting older but
hte drive sometimes gets stuck in cruise
control.....I understand what you are
saying. Just know thats what Dr.s are for
and they may be able to help you get over
this hump? Hope I've at least answered
your question!

Sorry no one responded sooner. Have you
ever thought about joining a cbt group? I
think it would help you, it takes effort
as it is the purest form of self help but
the rewards have been worth all the effort
I have put in so far. The cbt book we used
in my group is short and straight forward
it's called been there, done that? Do
this! By sam obitz. It sounds like anxiety
and depression are zapping your motivation
and you need to interrupt the negative
thought patterns that are causing you to
feel this way and that's what cbt teaches
you how to do. Good luck!

Lack of Motivation In the Morning Posted: 08-28-07 19:09pm
I've been suffering from a severe bout of
depression and anxiety lately. Especially
in the morning. I have a VERY hard time
getting out of bed. It used to be just
very hard to wake up. Now I just lay
there in panic mode. I am in sales so I
make my own schedule, therefore I don't
need to be anywhere at a certain time. I
know going to the gym in the morning would
help me through the day but I just can't
seem to get going. Anyone have any
tips??? Thanks!

It's your thoughts that are keeping you
from getting going. See my cbt advice to
someguy above and give it a try. I think
just countering your thoughts in a TEA
form everyday would give you the energy to
get going again and then hitting the gym
would accentuate your progress.

You're not alone. I think I at least
partially know how you feel, as i've been
feeling some of the same lately. - I have
no energy, I can't concentrate at school
(and I feel like I don't care about
anything).
Like the others have said; talk to people,
either friends, or a doctor, or perhaps
both. If you think you are depressed, you
should have people around to help you
through it

Good advice, but also look into learning
cbt as it will energize if you learn to
find the thinking errors you are making
that zap your enery and mood and then
correct or eliminate the errors and you
will feel so much better and more
energized.

Cbt is great, I didn't know it was
successful with depression but if it
works, good for you!
Medication can be EXTREMELY helpful with
depression. So can therapy. You guys don't
have to suffer! Let us know how you're
doin....

You Have Made the First Step Posted: 11-02-07 02:19am
realising you have a problem is the first
step. Asking for help is the second. that
is y i know u will find the solution and
get better. go to a church, talk to the
priest in private. u need to fast on
wednesdays and fridays and pray everyday -
ask priest how to pray and fast. the Lord
will show u the way. u must knock on the
door for it to be opened. i am thinking,
this problem u are having. sounds to me
like u r also fatigued too... u know...
-wake up early in the morning. go for a
walk/work out. at least 30 mins
-in the evening go for a walk/work out
too.
-u will find u will get fitter, and have
more energy.
one thing i wasn't aware of until shortly
was, depression, fatigue all this crap.
can be a symptom of something else. there
are endless possibilities... (to name a
few, thyroid problems, hormonal, candida)
think of the symptoms u have all of them,
constipation, diarrhea, wateva.
i am not a gp, but antidepressants can
help. c a gp.
no drugs, alcohol, quit smoking. - what
are u thinking, these cause depression and
fatigue.
eat healthy, maybe learn how to cook
urself. try vegan fried rice, yum.
exercise
drink enough water
take vitamin supplements. lacking in
vitamins can cause various problems.
(u would know by what u eat, n also ....
ur temperature from ur armpit. search:
herbs 2000 hypothyroid < it mentions it
there. research
celiac- malabsorption of vitamins n
minerals... linked to mental cognitive
function. check out medicinenet
for girls, r ur periods regular? hormonal
problems? pcos?
do not stop until u find a solution for
you. do not listen to only one doctor, try
another. c a naturopath, chinese
herbalist. try a psychologist, can help
you come up with a plan. There are
stubborn, idiotic ppl out there. Push on.
depression can be a sign for u that
something else is wrong. keep an eye out.
Hoping to God, we will all find the
solutions to our problems.
Find sanctuary in the Lord Jesus Christ,
guidance and protection from the Holy
Spirit.
Blessed is the Father, Lord Jesus Christ,
and the Holy Spirit.

yes, consider getting on some medication
and possibly see a therapist, effexor
worked with me, i quit smoking pot at the
beginning of this year (smoked everday
since 14, i'm 21 now) and I am having many
problems. depression, irritability, no
motivation to do anything, and now, bouts
of insomnia. well, i'm going to tell you
what i've started doing and maybe it can
help you too. Ive started to keep a
journal, sort of, just a little journal
for the day ahead to give me some hopeful
thoughts and motivation techniques, and a
little to-do list for the day, start out
small, maybe to do something a little
special at work....(i myself do not work,
not ready to take that dive yet with the
insomnia) or do something special for your
girlfriend. at the end of the day record
your thoughts of that day and if you
didn't do anything you planned record how
you feel about that. don't think it's
dorky or anything writing in a journal i
guarantee your gf will find it very lovely
i'm sure

Medication is just a mask but, it sure
helps. But, you have to do your part too.
