Hi, I got a problem that I'd be happy if
just a name could be associated with it if
no advice can be given.
Basically when I'm with a girl I like, I
usually get ill. Its usually at its worst
when I'm with a girl I really like in
public, especially if other people I know
are there with us - I do end up vomiting
(although I have enough warning to get to
a toilet). I'm usually okay if it's just
me and a girl but if I really like them
and we get onto a certain topic (the
obvious topic), I end up being sick also.
I don't think its a sexual problem because
I've been with girls before (recently) and
had no ill affects thought obviously no
one was around and I wasn't crazy about
them. Really liking someone seems to make
the problem a million times worse.
This is really having an awful affect on
my social life so I'd really appreciate
advice or a name for the condition so I
can get some advice elsewhere. Is it worth
bothering a doctor - can they help?

Hey,
It definitely seems clear to me that you
are suffering from some kind of social
anxiety, like an extreme attack of nerves
in certain situations. And in this case I
would say that you should definitely speak
to your doctor to seek advice on where you
can go for help. It could be that
medication would help you to get this
under control, or some kind of therapy.
What you are enduring is hampering your
lifestyle and the more it is allowed to
continue the more you will focus on it and
the more it will grow. You need to take
action to break the cycle now.
See your doctor, explain everything to
them and, the most important point, TAKE
THEIR ADVICE. Don't be too stubborn to
accept their diagnosis if you don't like
it, like I was, because us anxiety
sufferers are often the biggest skeptics.
