Im Scared to Get On Bithcontrol Posted: 08-19-07 23:08pm
I know this may sound KRAZY, but im scared
to get on birthcontrol. Well Im not really
scared of the birthcontrol im scared of
the docter visit. Some have told me that
when you go and get on birthcontrol you
have to get a papsmere ( maybe spelled
wrong) Im SCARED of that. Im a little
sexual active and have not really had sex
with a large penus guy so the thought of
something BIG going up my vagina kinda
scares me. Im also not sure which birth
control i should get on. I HATE needles, I
can't swallow pills and I have heard
rumors that the patch does not work b/c it
falls off. Sooooo im not sure which one
should get on. SOMEONE HELP PLEASE !!!!!

First of all, nothing "huge" goes in your
vagina. Secondly, if you're under the age
of 18 they might not even require a pap
smear, although since you're sexually
active it is the responsible thing to do.
A pap smear is not a horrible experience,
unlike what you may have heard. The
speculum (the tool that goes in) isn't
much bigger than a tampon when it is put
inside, and I bet your boyfriend's penis
is wider than that. Once it's inside,
then it is expanded. Again,
your vagina is MADE to expand. If you
relax and let your body do what its made
to do, your pap smear won't hurt I
promise!
Secondly, there are many kinds of birth
control.
The pills are itty bitty, really. Smaller
than probably any pill you've ever taken!
I can't take pills well either, I need to
eat something after I take the pill or any
pill feels like it's stuck; even birth
control! I can't stick pills on the back
of my tongue; it makes me gag. I place
them kind of in the middle, take a big
gulp, and then eat something. Like a
cookie! lol. Then I'm just fine. If you
think about it, you swallow whole pieces
of food that are a lot bigger than a pill.
The patch doesn't come off as much as
people say it does, otherwise it wouldn't
be on the market.

I don't know of free clinics... I know
there are other women on this forum who
do, so hopefully they'll stop by!

The ring? No pills, no patches, easy to
remember.
When the doc prescribes you for your first
birth control, she will probably spend
time talking to you about what your
options are and helping you find one that
works for you. She will not just ask you
what you want to do, she can give you any
information that you need and will help
you.
Also, the first time you get a pap, just
tell the doc that it's your first time and
you're nervous! They usually talk you
through it and tell you exactly what you
should expect to feel and it doesn't hurt,
it's just a bit uncomfortable. If you tell
her your nervous, she'll be especially
communicative.
You can look up planned parenthood in the
phone book. They will give you
confidential service and it can be free if
you don't have much of an income (which
you probably don't if you're under 18
lol). But you could also go to your local
doc if you're parents have insurance that
would cover it--
to talk to parents, lots of girls use the
"I have bad cramps" or "I want my period
regulated" excuse, which does work. Your
mom may be more understanding than you
think. And she wouldn't go in to see the
doc with you, and the doc wouldn't tell
your mom you are having sex.

Not all PP locations are free, the one
here in NC does not offer any free
services at all.
Most other locations do offer free
services to teens, so you pretty much have
to ask.

Just a thought- shouldn't you be more
scared NOT to be on birth control??
Whenever I've gone to planned parenthood
I've had to fill out forms about my income
and they decide a charge based on that....
but I've only been to two I guess

Depending where you live, planned
parenthood may offer free services for
teens and it is also confidential.
How old are you? Having a pap is not
scary at all. Although it may be
uncomfortable at first, it will not be
painful. Also, you could request for a
small speculum if it is available.
Pills are so small that I doubt you will
have trouble swallowing them. However if
you really hate the thought of having
pills, why not try nuvaring?

There is a chewable birth control pill
called Femcon Fe. It's a remodeled version
of Ovcon 35, the first chewable one, I'm
not sure if there are others out there
now. I am on it, but I don't chew mine (I
am an acclimated pill-taker, I take 5+
pills a day). They taste like mint. If you
chew it you are supposed to follow it with
a glass of liquid to wash everything
down.
Femcon Fe has 35 mcg of Estrogen, which is
a medium level, and norethindrone as the
progestin. In terms of androgens, it is
relatively low in them so it can help with
excess body hair and acne.
