I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and am having problems with constipation already. I go like every 4 days right now. Well I went earlier, and there was a little bit of light blood in it. Is that okay or is this something i need to worry about? I'm terrified of having a miscarriage.

its probably because you strained when you went. try drinking orange juice every morning and speak to your midwife about it if its getting too much of a pain

Hiya, I'm not criticising rj's advice but I was told by my midwife that the things that would make constipation worse are acidic and fatty foods and drinks. Orange juice being one of them.

The best thing you can do is have a bowl of bran flakes, weatabix, a fibre full breakfast. Drink lots of water to help flush through your intestines and soften the poo (lol, sorry). Try to avoid bigger meals, and eat little and often and eating a big meal with overwhelm your bowels, and eat lots of green veg.

Hope this helped.

ok ive done some research :
Your digestive system can do with a little help during this exciting time. Eating more fibre-rich foods, like fruit, vegetables, cereals and wholemeal bread, will help provide the necessary roughage to keep your system moving.
Drinking a lot of fluid helps keep the stool soft and easy to pass. At least 7-8 glasses a day is recommended. You can drink as much water and fruit juices (particularly prune and orange juice) as you like. It’s better to drink water, but even a little tea or coffee counts towards the total.
and exercise
there seems to be alot of opinions on this subject as there seems to be no one cause for constipation

thanks rose! That was sweet of you to do all that work. Smile I called the doctor and they said that if I feel cramps or pains to go to the .E.R. but it sounds like a good case of hemmeroids due to constipation. So I'll try what you said and hopefully it'll do the job. Wink
