Fearful of Vaginal Penetration Posted: 08-20-07 16:15pm
Has anyone ever been so scared of the
gynecologist that they cried? I just had a
pap smear and it felt horrible, a wierd,
deep, uncomfortable, pressing feeling.
Even though the doctor was kind, I could
not calm myself. I am always afraid of
pain when anyhting comes near me down
there.
I was so nervous I cried on the exam
table, my legs shook and I broke out into
a cold sweat.
I cried all the way home and cried for
another hour. I felt scared and alone, and
for a moment I wanted to kill myself.
I have never been abused sexually so I am
confused as to why i feel this way. The
thought of sexual intercourse makes me
nauseous and I fear that if I ever get
married I will never be able to consummate
the marriage. I can barely insert a tampon
without passing out. I want to protect my
health, and I've managed to get paps
before but I am getting more and more
scared with each visit instead of getting
used to it.
I think this is the last time I will EVER
go to the gynecologist!!
Anyone else ever have this problem and
have tips on how to get over this phobia?

That sounds like something you should seek
professional help for. Try looking in the
phone book for therapists near you.

Definitely see a therapist, you don't want
this to haunt you the rest of your life.
Anxiety is one of the easiest things to
fix in therapy.
