Hypersensitivity Caused By Abuse of Valium Posted: 08-20-07 16:24pm
Hi,
I am asking here on behalf of a friend.
When in his lower twenties he was ordered
Valium by a doctor, but he abused it
greatly and as a result has had a very
sensitive skin ever since (he is now 38 ).
For example, a fly can feel very painful
to him and can wake him up when he is
asleep. In order to feel less of the
problem he abuses alcohol, but my question
is whether anyone knows anything else that
might work.

Hi Mattias
Has your friend seen a doctor about this,
I can't imagine that valium would cause
this great a sensitivity so long after not
taking them...
there may be another reason, which can be
treated once diagnosed.
Alcohol, is not the answer, this will just
damage his liver, and cause greater
porblems..
I've attached a website on Valium and the
effects that may be caused by it... please
give it a read..
If you need further help, or info, please
post us again.
Take care (the both of you)

Ginger,
Thanks a lot for your helpful reply. I
have tried but failed to reach my friend
today, but he told me earlier that it
might be relevant that he had eaten two
types of mushrooms, namely (if I
understood him correctly) Amanita Muscaria
(fly agarics) and Amanita Virosa
(destroying angels). I did not mention
that in my first post because I did not
think it was relevant, but I suppose now
that it might be. If you or someone else
could give an expert opinion on this I
would be very grateful.
As far as I understand, my friend has
asked doctors about his hypersensitivity
with little result. He claims he has never
been helped by a doctor and consequently
is not too enthusiastic about consulting
one.
As for alcohol, I suppose my friend has
every reason to stop abusing it, because
his liver is already damaged to the point
of causing him pain when slightly
pressed.
Best regards,
Mattias

Magic Mushrooms .. Posted: 08-24-07 12:58pm
Hi Mattias
How long has your friend been 'orally'
taken these Magic Mushrooms ?
Or does he crush them and smoke them ...
All possibilities are relevant, both
'destroying angels' and 'fly agarics' is a
known hallucigenic, also causing nausea,
hypersensitivity, and all sorts of other
symptoms.
There are websites out there that will
state this .... I suggest that if he's
really hell bent on getting better, he has
to stop using them.
I'm not here to judge your friend, but to
abuse these substances, and alcohol, he
has to help himself, with your help if you
are in a position to do so.
I can tell that you really care and are
concerened for him, and he's lucky to have
a friend that does ...
I hope your friend takes this good advise
from you, and then within time, his life
will start getting better, and back on
track.
Again, if you need furhter support, please
post back, and I will re-post this into a
'support forum' so others in the same
situation can also give advise and
support.
Take care, and good luck

Drugs And Hypersensitivity Posted: 08-28-07 17:45pm
Hi Ginger,
Thanks for your reply. I have had
difficulties getting in touch with my
friend, but now I finally know the answers
to the questions you asked.
My friend has eaten (chewed, to be
precise) magic mushrooms on two occasions
(both considerably more recent than the
termination of Valium and associated onset
of hypersensitivity), on each of which he
ate many mushrooms (around 40). Moreover,
in addition to Amanita Muscaria and
Amanita Virosa he also ate Amanita Gemmata
and possibly yet other Amanitas (he knew
he had eaten red, yellow, and white ones,
and that in the end they all looked
purple).
When it comes to his use of Valium, I have
to correct myself. He took it for 20
years, starting when he was only a small
child (perhaps when he was five years old;
I do not know exactly). In case you
wonder, the reason he was ordered Valium
was basically that he had to deal with an
abusive father.
I now have two questions that you or
someone else may be able to answer:
1. My friend says he has been told that
after taking Valium for 20 years he can
expect his hypersensitivity to last for 40
years (twice the time for which he took
Valium). Is this correct?
2. I am of the impression that the only
drugs my friend has ever abused are Valium
and alcohol (I may be wrong here, though),
so what about such drugs which he has
merely tried (like the mushrooms)? Could
they have any significant part in his
hypersensitivity?
Regards,
Mattias

Hi Mattias
I've asked another colleuge to help me out
here, as I don't want to give you the
wrong advise as there are so many
factors.
She'll find a forum to re-post this into
that has other people in the same
situation, and are best to answer and
support.... don't worry tho, I will keep
an eye out for you, to make sure you are
being helped.
Best wishes - and take care
