Ok so I am not pregnant but I am trying to
concieve. Anywaz thats not the point of
this post. I am posting because I am
sitting here crying. MY husband has been
on workmans comp since February it took
until july for him to finally get a MRI
and a diagnosis (herniated disc) Well he
went to the surgeon today and we did not
recieve good news. Apparently my husbands
clubbed foot was not the only abnormality
he was born with. HIs lower spinal colum
is smaller than normal which makes surgery
im possible. So the doctor told him he is
going to have to live with it for the rest
of his life and that he can never lift
anything more than 5 pounds. Now I was
thinking this but the doctor came out and
said it and it made me break down, he said
that keith would never be able to hold his
children in his arm walk around. =0( No
airplane rides no nothing. I can live with
my husband being injured but I just think
back about how I loved my dad lifting me
up and so on. I am so frustrated. We have
no other option than to sue home depot
because keith will never be the same again
and well all he can do you would a desk
job and those don't pay well. THe doctor
also said that in time keith will probably
be confined to a wheelchair because once
the disc gives out completely walking will
be next to impossible because of the pain.
I am just so sad right now and well I need
some kind words and some advice.

Oh god that's so awful, i'm really sorry
for you and your poor DH!
Don't give up though, do some research,
there may be things that can help.
Doctors always love giving the worst case
scenario.

how sad. I am so sorry. I agree with the
others that maybe you should get a second
opinion. I really hope that maybe y'all
can find something to help him so that he
does not have to live like that for the
rest of his life.

Get a second opinion! I agree with Jules,
doctors love giving you the worst case
scenario. There has to be some other
option.

I have already made an Appointment for a
free consultation with Spinal Aid centers
of America for a relatively new treatment
called spinal decompression. We need to
see if he is a canidate and if he is fight
home depot to pay for treatment. I am all
about getting a second opinion because I
have noticed all the workmans comp doctors
have been quacks. This stress is not
helping either I am at the end of my TTW
and No AF yet but I think it is stress I
have not tested yet and am waiting a few
more days just so I do not waste money on
a pee stick. Now if we get pregnant it
will be harder now we though he would be
off workmans comp in a month or so so now
everything has changed we may have to put
the baby makin on hold which I really do
not want to do because of my family
history of early menopaude and so on.
Uhg... I think I need a drink. lol
oh Here is the Link the website for SATCA
Tell me what you think

I'm sorry about your news. Please pm me
if you want some more info re: spinal
injuries. i work in a non-surgical spine
clinic. What did his MRI say exactly?
What did they call the congenital anomoly.
Hahave seriously never heard of exactly
what your'e speaking of, and I would love
to be able to at least explain it to you
in plain english or offer you suggestions
of other treatment options. PM me if you
like or post here. I am so sorry to hear
of your news. I agree that a second
opinion is definitely inorder. i have not
much faith in spinal decompression
treatments.

Well according to his father ( I was not
there I was making money to keep us
afloat) the doctor said that the
canal/tube that has his nerves is to small
from a congenital defect and has much more
pressure from the bulge/herniated disc
causing to to be more painful and for some
reason he did not explain cause more
swelling. Something along those lines
without being there it is hard to get the
facts straight.

That sounds like Congenital spinal
stenosis or having congenitally short
pedicles., Neither of which is a death
sentence by any means. They require a bit
of lifestyle adjustment, but I imagine
there are a lot of non-surgical options
for him. A few that come to mind are:
Spinal injections
Oral steroids
Neuropathic pain medications such as
Neurontin or Lyrica
Osteopathic manipualtion therapy
Physical therapy
Yoga or pilates
We have many patients with these
conditions, and although i am certainly
not trying to minimalize your husband's
condition, I want to extend to you that
there may be many alternatives for him. I
think that sometimes surgeons have tunnel
vision. If it can't be fixed with
surgery, then it can't be fixed.
Let me know if there is any more info I
can give you. I am here to help.

OK he has done the following:
Physical therapy: he went for 2 months and
only go worse almost to the point of not
being able to walk.
Oral Steroids: He has taken 2 packs and
they did nothing to help bring down the
swelling let alone any pain relief.
Injections: He has had the cortizone shot
and even an epidural both of which where
unsuccessful.
Pain Medication: The doctor gave him
ibuprofen but it made him vomit, then the
doctor gave him vicadin which worked but
in order to control the pain he was
constantly on it and sleeeping half the
day away
So we have been trying other options we
did not want surgery we stood against it
for a very long time because his mother
had back surgery a year ago and is still
not 100 % and nees to have another
surgery. But after all we have tried we
finally said ok to the surgery only to
have the surgeon say no because of the
defect. So we are exausting our options
quickly. You cannot run a feather over my
DH's back without him screaming in pain.
( I bet you all wonder how we where/are
trying to concieve if he is soo hurt, well
heres how lol with a cup and a lot of luck
lol)

Wow, that is really tough. I guess I
would for sure do the second opinion. I
hope you find an option that works for
you. My thoughts are certainly with both
of you. Keep your chin up.
