So Tired of Being My Age Posted: 08-23-07 09:18am
Seriously, I am getting so frustrated with
all the stigma that come with being
'young'. I mean I'm 21, married, ttc, I've
handled everything on my own since I was
14. And still, I am treated like I'm fresh
out of high school. I have to work 4 times
as hard as others just to 'prove' myself.
And I'm not sure when or if it's even
going to pay off. I mean, I started this
position knowing what was expected. I have
had to put a little more into it than I
originally expected, but no more than what
I think is fair (it comes fairly easy to
me). I got this position because I had
already worked extremely hard to prove
myself with this company. I now have the
title of 'Accounting Assistant'. Great. If
I was 5 years older it would be 'Assistant
Accountant' and pay much much better.
Right now, my salary is laughable. I'm
just so tired of it. Ok, vent over.
Thanks!

I totally understand where you are coming
from. I am only 21 and teach piano and I
have had parents decided not to have me
teach their students because they feel
that I am too young. I am just as
qualified as any one else and in fact I am
a darn good teacher. I try to get over it
but it gets irritating.
Also, whenever I told people that I was
married and expecting they just stand
there shocked. So, I decided to marry
young. Is that a bad thing? I mean I met
the man of my dreams and married him. I
wasn't going to let him slip away.
Anyways, I am done.
I hope that you feel better and the people
that you work with better start treating
you better or I am going to whip their
little behinds!

i know how you feel. i was constantly
critisised for marrying at 18. and wheni
got pregnant at 19 it was huge deal even
though i'd been with my husband since we
were 16

Well, that used to happen to me when I was
young. It still happens sometimes because
I look young.

I absolutely hate it whenever that
happens. I have met some many women that
are years older than me but just plain
stupid and don't want to change the fact.
I am not saying that I am super mature but
I know that I am more mature than them! My
husband is a lot more mature than other 26
yr old guys that I know.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with
people. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal
with a lot of that. My family doesn't
think that way and neither does the small
town I live in. If it helps any though, I
love you! Whatever happened with your
husband going to school? I'm glad that you
two are still ttc. How are your cycles
going now?

i get that all the time. even though there
are plenty of people around here in my
situation with kids young, we all agree we
get looks 'cos of our age. even when my
friend was heavily pregnant, she was made
to stand on a train as no1 offered her a
seat. any other woman it would be
different
