the Internal Anxiety Shakes
Posted: 08-26-07 15:19pm

I have been out of work since March of this year due to increased anxiety. I have been on Xanax and was not taking more than 1mg/day. I tried a few SSRI's but I couldn't tolerate any of them.

My biggest symptom is internal shaking. I have it from the time I wake up in the moring which is the worst part of my day because it takes me time to wake up, so I feel confused and anxious for about 30 min. each morning. The internal shaking lasts all day and seems to settle in the evening sometimes. I also get the lumpy sensation in my throat and the discomfort in my chest (sternum). Xanax seems to help, but I've weaned down to 0.25mg/day and I take it mid afternoon. Besides that I take Klonopin 1mg twic daily. Sometimes, when my anxiety is really up, I get bad nausea and start belching and feel like I'm going to throw up.

Can anyone relate to this? My Psychiatrist has thrown her hands up in the air, told me to get a second opinion, which I did. Second doctor told me I need to stop taking Xanax as I'm getting rebound anxiety, but at 0.25mg/day, I can't see that as the problem, as the Klonopin should keep me from any kind of withdrawing.

I seriously think I have something else wrong with me. I'm a Registered Nurse x 15 years and have tons of knowledge and have done tons of research on this and it seems like I have the symptoms of GAD, but I just can't understand what would cause this. I have been on disabillity since March of this year because of all this. I have no financial worries, or family problems. I am happily married with two great kids, nice house, etc.

Please try and help me, anyone....this is really affecting my family life, and it sucks.

Hi Gary. This may sound like a stupid question, especially since I am also a nurse, but what is "internal shaking". I have MS and have fine tremors quite often which make me feel weak and a little nauseated at times. Is internal shaking similar to that? I guess I should stop my questions and just look it up. The only suggestion I would have is to maybe try a neurologist. Maybe it is neurological. Do you have any other physical symptoms?

Keep in touch. - T
