Just Starting Birth Control And Want to Delay/skip Period Posted: 08-26-07 22:39pm
i just started birthcontrol (femcon fe-21
active 7 reminder) today(aug 26) and
realized that i am due to be taking the
reminder pills/have my period when i go to
visit my boyfriend sept 21-23 and really
want to avoid this. I know that most
people would just skip the reminder pills
and start a new pack however i only have
one months worth and won't be seeing my
doctor again until I have already started
the reminder pills and don't have an easy
way of contacting her. If I have already
started the reminder pills and have been
taking them for 3 days when I see my
doctor, can I then start taking the active
ones when i get the perscription re-filled
to prevent it/stop it or will that no
longer work? Is there anything I can do in
this situation or do i need to find a way
to get the perscription refilled sooner?

I believe the withdrawal bleed can
continue into your active pills.
I'd suggest you get the doctor to call in
a refill.
I'm on the same pill, btw, nobody else
seems to be on it. I kept going on it for
a few weeks then going off because of side
effects (chronic headaches, insomnia).
This time though, I guess my body has
adjusted, it's my third time going on it
and I haven't had any side effects. Let me
know how it goes for you.

Sometimes doctors have a line where you
can call just to ask for a refill on a
prescription- I'd call the clinic and see
if they can do that. Usually a nurse will
process it and just get the doc's approval
so you don't actually have to go see them.
But anways, the first month that you try
to skip you may experience spotting and it
might not entirely work. It usually takes
a few months for the skipping to really
work.
It's worth a shot, though. And just
because you have your period doesn't mean
you can't enjoy the time with your b/f....

so it wouldnt make any sense for me to
take the first 2 or 3 placebo pills and
then start the active ones again as soon
as i get the new perscription? would that
at least lighten/shorten my period, or
does it have no effect whatsoever?

I'm not really sure about this one, but I
would think that it might just mess your
period up more if you gave it a few days
off and then started again. You would
still probably get your period, and then
would risk having a lot of spotting after
your period or something.
If you're trying to skip, I'd try get the
prescription earlier and just take the
active ones continuously.
But remember, at this point, there is
nothing you can do to make sure you don't
get your period. No matter what you do,
there is a chance that you will experience
spotting during the time you normally get
your period or just get your period
anyway.
