Bumped Nose - 3 Months Post Rhinoplasty - Damaged It???? Posted: 08-28-07 12:16pm
Hi,
I recently had revision rhinoplasty 3
months ago and have been healing for the
most part well, with obviously the typical
"nose days". For the last month though my
boyfriend has been staying at mine and has
subsequently bumped my nose a few times on
accident, not hard, but I have noticed the
profile no longer feels smooth and has a
few "knots" especially on the right side
of the bridge. Last night he bumped me
alot harder though, no bleeding but now
I'm really worried. When viewed by
mirror, my profile has a very slight bump
but it feels much larger. But in photos I
certainly notice a bump that wasn't there
before. My boyfriend of course says he
can't see a thing etc, which is a typical
male response. So my question is has this
happend to anyone else? Have I
permanently damaged my nose or is it
simply just swelling? I am honestly
really upset and depressed about this,
this is my second nose job, a closed
rhinoplasty to correct a droppy tip
(result of 1st surgery) and again to file
down a slight bump in my profile that
redeveloped. So obviously the bump in my
profile really bothers me, and I've been
through all this pain and stress, possibly
for nothing? I can't help feeling
incredibly sad and also although I know it
was an accident I am sort of resenting my
boyfriend living with me and inturn this
whole nose deal is affecting our
relationship. If anyone has any advice of
how to help my healing or if you've had a
similar experience please share, I'd
really appreciate it!!!

Bumped Nose Posted: 09-02-07 19:39pm
Hi there,
Something similar has happened to me -
about 10 months after the operation. I was
getting up from a public toilet and banged
my nose badly on a steel toilet roll
holder which was attached to the wall at a
very inconvenient angle. A raised bump
appeared just under the bridge of my nose
and while it has gone down a little bit,
there is still a noticeabl ridge and it
feels uneven - seems to look worse in the
evenings when I'm tried or when the light
catches it. Have you had any other
responses yet or suggestions as to what to
do? While I am upset at the incident, I
don't think I would go through another
operation. Also, when I first had it done,
I thought the splint looked crooked and I
kept pushing it over to the other side -
the doctor hadn't warned me not to touch
it and now the nose is slightly crooked.
It's disappointing, but after going
through so much pain and inconvenience the
first time (I had to take a lot of time
off work and sport) I really don't think I
would be prepared to go through it all
again. Any suggestions as to what to do
with the bump? Will it go away eventually
(it's already been over 2 months). Or
would it have appeared anyway, even if I
hadn't had the accident? I've heard of
something called a calcium deposit which
can appear post-op but eventually
disappears?
