IS Son's Spine Healthy and Normal ?
Posted: 08-28-07 22:00pm

Have a question about my son, hes 7months old and outside of having reflux-he is healthy. Mainly asking this, cause every time my mom holds him, shes always asking "Is his back ok?" Now, its kinda driving me nuts. Hes not fully sitting up yet. But anytime hes kind of bent over, a part of his lower back, right above where his tailbone is I guess, sticks out. I'm constanly running my hands over it and he doesn't cry. His spine is not curved or anything, just sticks out a bit. I'm assuming this is normal, until he starts to sit up straight and begins walking?

If it doesn't seem to be bothering him, I would wait until his next scheduled appointment (9 month appointment, I'm guessing) and bring it up to his pediatrician. Or if it's really bothering you, call the office and ask the nurse if s/he thinks you should bring your son in for a checkup.

Good luck, and please let us know how things turn out!

I'm sure if I call, they'll tell me to just wait till his 9month check up. When hes laying on his tummy, I don't feel it, just when hes sitting or sometimes when being held up right.

Well as I said, if it doesn't seem to be bothering him, it's probably not serious. But if you're worried about it, the doctor's office will most likely schedule an appointment for you. If they try to ask you to wait, politely insist. They should accommodate you. Smile
