Constant stomach pains are not a sign of
pregnancy. This symptom could be due to a
type of gastro-intestinal disorder.
Gastro-intestinal bleeding can be a very
serious sign that something is wrong. If
the blood originates from the upper
digestive system (esophagus, stomach and
duodenum) it manifests with melena (black
blood in the stools). For example, peptic
ulcers, blood from a stomach cancer, and
esophageal hemorrhoids manifest with
melena. Sometimes, if the bleeding is very
severe, the blood can be vomited
(haemathemesis). If blood originates from
the lower digestive tract (small and large
intestines) there will be red blood in the
stools (rectorrhagia). Intestinal tumors,
hemorrhoids, inflammations can manifest
with rectorrhagia. Sometimes, blood in the
stool can be invisible (occult bleeding)
and can be detected only with a laboratory
test.
In your case, you didn’t mention that
you throw up blood or have blood in the
stools. How did your doctor conclude that
you have intestinal bleeding? You can
request an abdominal ultrasound and
endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) to
examine the entire gastro-intestinal
tract. You may consult an internist to
gather more information and to request
advice.
