When Did You Stop Growing? Posted: 08-29-07 17:18pm
I'm 18 years old (almost 19) and I'm quite
unhappy with my height at 5'6. I've gotten
many different answers to the question of
when men stop growing that range anywhere
between 17 and 25 years old. From this, I
can only assume that it really just
depends on the person. Do you remember
when you stopped growing, maturing, etc.?
At what age were/are you in your best
shape? What age do you think men stop
growing in height? Do you know anyone who
shot up after 18 years old? Is there any
diet or exercise that might help?

Hello,
Well as for me I am 20 and also 5 6 and
sick of being so short. Unfortunately for
me I don't see me growing although there
are plenty of things you can do to help
grow a bit its not going to make you grow
but assists your body in dooing so. my
suggestions are: No smoking of any kind
(this stuns growth ALOT), drink milk (or
calcium pills), exercise not weights it
actually keeps you short to lift alot of
weights mostly running and pull-up's
push-up's the usuall P.E. stuff, oh and
Streaching.... Streaching is a big one so
try to streach about 30 hr a day atleast.
Hope this helps as for the time frame of
when you should stop growing,
Scientifically its when you're 24 but I am
not sure if its really true. Well Good
luck hope it helped

I'm 5 10 - 5 11 ( 6 1 with the hair =) )
but I have not grown in height since 9th
grade. I'm a sophomore in college at the
moment. There are growth hormones, but I
would not recommend them because they have
way too many side effects, the choice of
course is up to you. How you eat is also
important, but don't just stack up on
calcium, its a misconception because of
the big drive with advertisement on t.v.
always saying "now contains calcium!".
Calcium is vital yes, but your body only
stores so much, and you will need many
other nutrients to grow. I'm a bit lazy to
take out my nutrition book and tell you
exactly right now, but I will look it up
another time if you wish. Stretching does
help as well, but ignore the part about
working out with weights stunting growth.
Working out with weights only stunt growth
really if you are doing it incorrectly
that you are lets say damaging your spine
and growth plates. My best friend is one
of the most muscular and physically
capable guys I know, he does quite a bit
of heavy lifting, and while I stopped
growing for 4 years, he suddenly went from
5 6 to almost my height. -_- genetics,
sucks. Why he probably grew if it wasn't
due to a genetic growth spurt, healthy
diet to compensate for his work outs, plus
working out (particularly DIFFICULT work
outs) causes your hormonal levels to rise.
However, do not suddenly run off to the
gym and start doing squats with barbell
(considered best overall exercise with
weights), you need experience and proper
form or you will cause damage to your
body. Let me know if you need help
concerning working out, gl
I was 5'5ish in 7th grade at 12ish 6'0 in
summer of 8th/9th grade somewhere around
18-19 I stopped at 6'2"...I was also in my
best shape at 19 my exwife had kids and it
went to crap after that...

I had a massive growth spurt when I was
15. I grew six inches in four months. I
finished growing when I was about 19. I
ended up being 6'6" at my tallest. I have
spinal problems (from my massive growth
spurt, ironically), and have shrunk to
6'3", but I've been this height for a few
years now.

I had growth spurts about all of my
teenage years. I finally stopped growing
probably around 19-20 years old. But like
you said, it depends on the person. I
know people who haven't started growing
until age 18 then they grow a lot. Aljim5
is right about calcium for bone growth and
no smoking or I've also heard
coffee/caffeine could stunt growth
hormones, restrict bloodflow. Eating LOTS
of nutritious food and regular exercise is
all you can do. The amount of food intake
you have during a growth spurt has a
direct correlation to how much you
actually grow. If you get lucky and have
one more growth spurt, make sure you are
eating like a horse to get extra inches!
good luck
