So I am back from my wonderful vacation in
Maine. We has so much fun. We went to
Portland Headlight, went shopping in
Portland several times, went to Freeport
to the L.L. Bean store, went cayaking,
hiking on Peaks Island, sea glass hunting,
star fish hunting, ate tons of Lobster,
went to a Portland Sea Dogs game, and ate
at DiMillos (for Terra).
The trip itself was great once we got
there. The travel to and from was
frightful. It started off on Saturday on
our way up there. They cancelled our
flight, then we stood in the ticket
counter for another 2 hours trying to get
another flight only to find out that we
had to go the next day.
Then on our way back home, our first
flight was cancelled and we got booked on
the next flight and that was also
cancelled. So the next option was take a
6:00am flight the next day – too early
for the ferry from the island and the
airport guy said the hotels in the area
were about $200 a night, so that doesn’t
work. The next flight was at 11:30 no
good, because we wouldn’t have a
connection in JFK to Raleigh.
So they decided that the best option would
be to take a bus to Boston then get a
direct flight to Raleigh. My inlaws took
us to the bus terminal on Sunday to go to
Boston. Everything was fine until we
almost landed and we went through a
thunderstorm. The plane started shaking
really bad and got worse. The wing of the
plane was going up and down uncontrollably
so I had to close the shade. They told us
to buckle our belts as tight as we could,
put our seats up and tray tables up and if
it gets to bad, to put our head between
our knees. **Really encouraging at this
point** I was hysterical, and grabbing the
guy next to me. Tears pouring down my
face, heart racing, sweating ridiculously,
it was like something out of the movies.
I think I was so worked up and scared
because dh was not sitting next to me to
calm me down, he was 12 rows up. So the
guy next to me had to do. After things
calmed down it was amazing how people were
talking so much that weren’t talking at
all before that.
Every picture site is blocked at work so
this is the only way I can post pics.
Sorry.
i'm glad you had fun! i love freeport and
portland. portland is only an hour and a
half away but we rarely go.
you and your hubby are a cute couple! you
don't look at all like i thought you
would, though i don't know what i was
picturing.
that sucks about the flight! glad
everything turned out!
oh, and i don't know why but the starfish
picture creeped me out!

Portland is such a fun city. I love all
the little shops down by the waterfront.
We didn't spend much time in Freeport,
although I could have.
The starfish freaked me out a little bit
also. The children of my inlaws friends
were catching them and were holding them.
I didn't want anything to do with them,
but the kids had so much fun catching
them.

Sounds like fun!! (you know aside from the
whole near-death-experience thing) Which
by the way, you handled well. I would have
been so medicated by the time I got off
the flight (which I would never do agian)
that I wouldn't know who I was let alone
were I was. lol.
I'm glad you had a good time! I can't get
to the pics from work. lol. Gotta love it.
But, I'll look at them when I get home.
So, do you think you brought back
any...um...'souvenirs'...or just one.
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink...

I don't know about any of those little
souvenirs...I am not expected to start af
until Sunday. But while I was up there, I
didn't temp or use opk's because I just
didn't want to be bothered with them. We
just did what we wanted about the whole
thing. Two things though...
1.., the day before last, my stomach felt
like I had none a ton of sit ups...and I
definitely wasn't exercising on
vacation... and I have also been extreemly
bloated since thursday. and....
2... this morning I went to the bathroom
and I was bleeding a little bit. I was
like what the heck is this. If this is af
then I started 3 days early and had the
shortest cycle on record. It would only
be 22 days. It was just a little and when
I went to the bathroom before I left there
was nothing. And again at work and
nothing. So I don't know what that is all
about. I don't have any cramps at all and
my bbs dont really hurt.
I am 100% not trying to read ANYTHING into
it because if I do, AF will come and fix
my thoughts straight!!!

Sounds like you guys had a great time.
How nice to get away! When did you leave?
My friend tried to fly out of Chicago
last Thursday after taking a flight there
from Denver with her hubby and baby and
they ended up getting cx'd and they would
have had to wait another 19 hours for a
flight. They rented a car in chicago and
drove to upstate New York with her 6 month
old, instead. Can't think of much worse.
Bravery! Was that because of all the
thunderstorms?

Glad you had a nice time!
Starfish creep me out too. They are the
most harmless thing, but the way they feel
gives me shivers.
Seeing that lobster makes me want some. I
have a friend who works on a lobster boat.
I'm going to call him now!
Dave Price from the morning show was in
Bar Harbor yesterday.

I was just watching the Lobster Wars with
my husband last night and they were twice
the size of the Lobster that we were
eating up in Maine. I wonder where those
big guys go to.
When we were taking the ferry to Peaks
Island, the ferry boat either ran over or
tried to dodge the hundreds of lobster
pots in Casco Bay. There were so many of
them out there everywhere you
looked.....now I want some Lobster and its
only 10am...
I can't get over how cheap lobster is up
there. Its only $5 a pound. Down in NC
its like $16 -$20 a pound. We just eat
Blue Crab down here.
Mommy35 - (Cant remember your name) - It
definitly didnt snow while we were up
their much to dh wishes. But it did get
reallly cold at night. Taking the ferry
at night was brutal when DH wants to sit
up on top and watch the boats go by. What
part of Maine do you live in?

Thank you!
Dimillos has such good food. It was worth
the 45 minute wait we had. We sat up on
the top deck. DH loved it because he
loves looking at all the BIG boats. And
oh my were there some huge ones. Then
these big boats came and made all this
wake and the resturant was rocking back
and forth and I started to get a little
queasy watching it rock back and forth.
But it sure was good food.
Have you (or you Bridget) ever eaten at
Gilberts in Portland? It is right on the
water next to Dry Dock and Ri Ra. They are
known for their chowder! We ate their
twice while we are there. It is dh's
favorite place to go.

It's Cindy!!! It does get really chilly
at night, especially if you are near the
water. I live near Bangor, which is in
Central Maine.
I think the big lobsters go into aquariums
for display. I believe it's illegal to
sell a lobster over so many pounds for
food, but I'm not sure about that. It
would be terribly tough anyway. Ewww I
think they should just throw them back
into the ocean to live out their lives.
We pay about $7.99-$10.00 a pound
depending on the market. Fresh off the
boat we pay $3.00 a pound.

Wow, sounds like a great time. Makes me
want lobster. You look familiar. Did you
play any sports or anything when you were
here?
The travel back made me nostalgic for the
way airlines used to treat travellers. I
remember when it was expected that the
airline would pay for your hotel room if
your flight was cancelled and they
couldn't get you on another one until the
next day.

No I wasnt in school when I was up there.
Ive been out of school for a while now.
Yeah, I was pretty pissed that they
wouldn't pay for anything. THey didnt
even offer and when I asked, they looked
at me like I was crazy. They ended up
costing us an additional $200 in extra
expenses. I am going to be writing Jet
Blue a nice friendly up yours letter.
They are not my friend right now.

I've been in a number of adult leagues
here in softball, flag football, and
soccer. I thought maybe you had done
something like that. Or, it could just be
that you have one of those faces that
seems familiar even though it is not.

I often have people come up to me and call
me by a different name because I look like
someone else. When I first moved to VA
and was making friends with my husbands
friends, I repeatedly was called by a
diferent name because I looked so much
like this other girl. Sometimes when I go
back up there, I still have people asking
me if I am her. It sometimes gets
annoying, but I guess that I do have one
of those familiar faces.
