First Birthday Help
Posted: 08-31-07 12:40pm

Kaylee's turning 1 on October 5th & I know it's still a little ways away but I want to start planning her birthday party but I don't even know where to start! I've never been to a 1 year olds' birthday, let alone throw one. I don't know if I should have a theme or not & what to make the theme if I choose to do that.. The only thing I know is that I'm going to have a bigger cake for everyone else & a tiny one just big enough for Kaylee to dig into on her own, just bigger than a cupcake.. Other than that I am completely clueless.. Any ideas or suggestions would be great!! Also there are going to be kids there that are a few months older than Kaylee & a few that are 5 years old & up so I don't know what to do there either...

Help!!! Embarassed

I heard at walmart you can get a free little cake for babies first birthday, you should go ask the bakery about that, id def do a theme, my friends son turns one on sept 9th she is doing a happy feet theme. Not much you can do at a 1 yr olds bday party but you cancookout for the adults and games and toys for the little ones, and the little party hats that will be cute. I wanna do a theme for jordynnes but im not sure yet, ill have to see cuz i dontknow when id do her birthday cuz her bday is on christmas day so it makes it a little bit harder lol.

At walmart they do give you a free little cake for the baby. My friend just had her daughters 1st birthday and she got a big cake for the adults from walmart and they gave her the little one for free. She had a lot of older kids that came to the party and she had face painting for them. The little ones might stay still long enough to have their faces painted.

I can not believe that big girl is gonna be 1............I know i'm getting old. She is such a little doll. I for one say yes go for theme and make it as baby childish as possible. When she turns 24 this month , you'll wish for those years back. Too many kids toady are treated like little adults....Life is too short. I agree with The _Girlfreind....Tele Tubbies, or Disney, or something baby.............she's only 1! You could get soem blow bubbles and let the children that are old enough blow bubbles for the younger ones, ice cream? and of course Apple Juice or Hawaain Punch....no milk today! LIVE LARGE! Get a tape with some abc music or soemthing kiddie in the baby section of Walmart to play for the party. Blow up balloons but tape them away fraom babie or hang on strings around hte room for a festive color. Just stuff I use to do! Oh, party hats kinda suck when oyur this little, my daughter woul try to eat hers!!!!!!!

honestly, sweetie... shes turning 1. She wont know the difference if you decorate the place with streamers or throw poo all over the walls lol. They really don't notice stuff like that nor care.

Secondly, i wouldn't invite too many people. Kids that young don't do very well around a crowd. She'll be nervous and wont be able to enjoy herself that well.

Third-- she'll be more interested in the boxes her gifts come in than the presents themselves. so don't be sad when shes playing with the box of a $75 toy and the toy is sitting on the floor untouched lol.

Lastly, I'd get two cakes. One that she can play in (every kid wants to play with their cake at that age) and one to serve to the *guests*.

Shes most likely wont remember the party a week later, so don't go out of the way spending a lot of money trying to make it memorable. Take lots of pics, give her lots of lovin, and have a good time. ^_^

aww, everyone is turning 1! I can't believe it. I think you should go all out for her first birthday. Not just for her, but for you and Shane to remember too. They only turn 1 once. Is there a favorite animal or something she carries around? Adriana LOVES Pablo from The Backyardigans, and if I had a chance to do it all over again, I would have gone with that theme, rather than just colors. And it's a good idea, as you suggested....2 cakes, a little one for her and a big one for everyone else. I think October would be beautiful weather for a cookout. You could have some kind of game for the older kids where you do a treasure hunt. Give them clues and make them follow it until they find whatever you hid. I think you've got plenty of space for that! And as Star said....face painting for the littler ones. Or maybe even a ball pit for the younger ones too. I think you can buy those (rather than renting...sanitary purposes) especially if there aren't that many little ones. I hope she has a good birthday, and hopefully you can have fun planning it. I can't wait until next year!

i didnt say *dont* celebrate... just dont over-do it.. she wont care one way or the other. the decorations would be mainly for the adults which dont really matter. a few streamers to be festive, maybe themed plates, but thats as far as *I* would take it. To each their own tho.

I had over 40 ppl at liams 1st. i rented a giant blowup bouncer and my inlaws have an above ground pool. we cooked out and i got a huge noahs ark cake for everyone and he got a free small cake from publix. He had a good 60 presents and surprisingly opened most of them. My neice is about to turn two and my mother in law got a small bouncer for $50 at big lots. were gunna fill our little tikes tug boat with balls and fill the baby pool. shes gunna have a lot less ppl and only about 5 kids all under 3. macys and liams theme for their first bday was just the babys first birthday stuff.

agree with rainfire, they wont remember anything about the birthday, which is why i only invited some of his little friends to play with and he enjoyed himself just playing with the boxes the toys came in, so i wouldnt spend too much on the pressie either, you're gunna get loads from family and friends

Thanks for all the ideas guys.. The ball pit is such a good idea & I honestly didn't even think about a cookout, that would work out great for all the adults there. I don't wanna go *too* overboard but I do kinda wanna go all out for it.. Because it's true, she's only going to turn 1 once.

I think if you want to go all out, go for it. She won't remember it, but you and Shane will, and there are always pictures to show when she's older!

yes, because we all know the adults are supposed to be the ones enjoying themselves at a 1 year olds birthday party, not the kids.

Rolling Eyes

you'll have pics no matter how you decorate. You're supposed to want to remember the special day, not the *special decorations.*

I agree. We're making a big deal about Ava's birthday. With just family and friends with babies we have 96 on the guest list. We have large families and lots of friends who have little ones.
I love parties and planning them, so it's my cup of tea to plan a big one.

Do what you feel is right for you and your budget.

I didn't say it was for the adults to have fun but for the sake of the memories for Kaylees parents.
