Posted: 08-31-07 20:25pm

I have water build up on the inside of my ear drum and my doctor put me on medrol dose pak to get the swelling down to release the fluid but I am now pregnant and the problem still exist. Is there anything I can do to eleviate the pain in my ear? It is giving me really bad headaches and making my equilibrium off.

Most painkillers are not recommended during pregnancy. You may tray paracetamol but that is a weak painkiller.

It seems that the pain is being caused by the liquid collected in the middle ear, thereby causing pressure. Corticosteroids (medrol) are given to calm inflammation. Inflammation causes exudation (liquid collection in the middle ear) and Fallopian tube’s obstruction so that the exudate can’t be evacuated naturally. If the problem still exists after treatment you can consult an ENT-specialist for more recommendations.
