Weight Issues.

Well, Adriana had her WIC appointment yesterday.
6 months ago she was 23lbs 15oz and 29 inches
Yesterday she was 24lbs 8oz and 31 inches

They say she hasn't gained enough, and they want me to give her more calories. Adriana is a pretty good eater. She likes good food, and she adores fresh fruit. She won't drink milk, so I try to give it to her in other forms (cereal, scrambled eggs) however, she loves cheese...and I try to have that on hand at all times. She goes through spurts, and eats all day long, and the next day she will only pick at things. I don't think I should be worried, yet I kind of am. What are your opinions?
She has her doctors appointment on the 17th, and he told me it's good to see them grow up instead of out. So maybe he'll tell me different that what WIC told me? Confused

WIC has these odd little standards that they follow. They don't understand that each child is different and grows at different paces. If Adriana's ped thinks she's ok, than I'm sure she is. She's adorable BTW!!!!!

Thank's Cindy!

I'd also like to add that Adriana has had like 1 cold her entire life, and 1 UTI, but other than that she's not been sick at all. (knock on wood)
She's also going to be 18mos on the 13th too, BTW.

18 months?! it seems like you were just posting her birthday pics!

i wouldn't worry since she is gaining and growing. this may not be the healthiest suggestion, but have you tried chocolate or strawberry milk?

i wouldnt worry about it, joseph didnt gain much weight over the year, and ive seen different wic people everytime, the last one i saw was the one that said joseph was underweight, he had his 2 yr check up a month after that, the pediatrician wasnt concerned with his weight at all. Kids are really active, joseph was like 25 lbs when we moved here last july and just now weights 27 and a half lbs and is like 31 or 34 inches tall i cant remember. I think the wic people are full of it. we know our kids eat and stuff lol. And if the dr thought she was underweight they would tell u so, i dont think wic people are drs. so blah to them

Yes, I've tried both kinds...she still doesn't fall for it! LOL. She's too wise for her own good. They actually suggested putting sugar in her cereal/oatmeal. I think for the extra calories. Because she will eat 2 bowls of cereal for breakfast. Regular sized bowls that is. She's had 3 bananas since 12:30...those are high in calorie.

I was just in the kitchen making dinner, and I was peeking at her and she jumps off the couch and runs up to me and says "I see you!" plain as day! She's been putting words together like mad lately. Soon she'll be talking full sentences!
Right now she's sweeping the living room floor (yeah...it's carpet Laughing )

They follow guidelines from like 1950 or something. Kids at this age don't normally put on serious pounds because they're too freaking busy running from the time they wake up in the morning until they literally pass out at night.... Adriana's perfectly healthy and if you follow their advice she won't be. There's no way in heck I'd be giving my child empty calories to turn to flab by shoveling sugar onto stuff. Sorry but what they said made me mad. Screw them!!!!! Adriana's perfect!!! The WIC people can go play in traffic. Sorry, rant over!

shes got high metabolism.. don't worry about it. as long as shes staying on the same curve as when she was born, and her PED doesn't see any concern, to hell with the WIC people. They don't know anything anyway. Adriana is gorgeous and thats all there is to it.

How about yoghurts as another form of dairy? Wont she even drink milk in a bottle at night before bed?

Thanks ladies.
I know I shouldn't be concerned, but it's hard not to think about when someone tells me my daughter isn't growing enough. But she really is nonstop all day long. I refuse to give her sugar on her cereal as they suggested, I thought that was gross when they told me that. I'll continue to feed her as I always have. She eats what we eat and she doesn't get sweets. If I bake that's one thing, but we don't buy candy and garbage like that.
So to hell with WIC's nutritionist! Twisted Evil
Thanks for the encouraging words everyone.
And one dr. appointment she didn't gain much, but she grew taller and he told me that's the ideal way for babies to grow. He'd rather see them grow up than out. And that's exactly what she's doing. She sees him on the 17th, so we'll see what he has to say.

I cannot believe they suggested giving a BABY sugar. It makes me sick. She does not need sugar in her diet at all. Children only develop a taste for sugar after they know it exists. Until then, they think fruit is perfect. Smile

She doesn't get sugary things. She LOVES cheerios. She likes total and crispix too. And that's the kind of cereal she eats and I have never added cereal to it. I don't even give her juice to drink. She mainly drinks water, and every once in awhile I'll give her some of my Raspberry Ice crystal light. She eats fruit like it's going out of style. She loves it. She used to be quite picky about her veggies, but she's been doing much better. She loves corn now, and she wouldn't touch it before. She doesn't do the canned veggies, but that's ok fresh is much better tasting anyways. She also loves chicken. She's a pretty good meat eater too, but she loves chicken way more than beef. Just like her mom!
