Atkins, Missed Period, And Pregnancy Posted: 03-22-04 12:41pm
Hi- I am two weeks late on my period. It
can be one week late occasionally, but not
two. My husband and I have been trying to
be safe, but we slipped around the time I
should have been ovulating.
The thing is I have been doing the atkins
diet for almost two weeks. I have lost
ten pounds. Could that change my period?
Could it alter a pregnancy test? I have
took a few test and at first they show
negative, but if I look at them later it
shows a faint positive. Help me please!

You could be pregnant, and it's just too
early to detect yet. Maybe wait a few
days and if your period doesn't arrive,
test again. I'm not too sure about this
atkins diet myself, but I do know that
losing too much weight too quickly can
definatley alter other things in you're
body, such as periods etc.. I hope you
get some answers really soon, if all else
fails, see a Dr.

I agree with the above post to wait a few
days and see wot happens then. But u
should never read a hpt after the time has
expired as u get evaporation lines and
everything so they are incorrect.

atkins could not give you a false
pregnancy result. Losing a lot a weight
could disrupt your periods though. If
your period does not start soon try
another pregnancy test, but they can show
pregnancy after the first day of a missed
period. Take folic acid if you do think
your pregnant as it is important in early
pregnancy.

Well, congratulations dear!! You can use
atkins to better your life and lose the
baby fat after the little one comes. It
really is a very healthy way of life!
(if followed precisely)

Please take care when you quit the atkins.
I had been on it for two months when I
got a faint positive. I quit and went
back to my normal eating habits. I
turned out to be having a hormone surge
and wasn't pregg, I gained all that I had
lost back in one week and plus a few extra
pounds. Take care to increase your carbs
slowly in order for your metabolism to get
back to normal ( not ketosis or
lipolysis).
Good luck
wishing I was pregg too!!

Why do people think it is healthy to do a
20 carb a day diet ??? You have to
continue with atkins for the rest of your
life, or you will gain the weight back
plus alot more if you do not continue. I
know, I did the atkins for a month, lost
alot of weight, and now I weigh more than
I ever have, and I hate myself. I get
pissed when I see skinny women! It
shouldn't be like that !!!! On the other
hand, you can restrict your carbs, but you
need carbs to build muscle. 20 carbs a
day isn't good ..... Good luck !

My office manager has lost 40 lbs and has
been on the atkins for over a year. She
eats up to 80 carbs a day. The 20 carbs
a day is only on induction. The reason
that you gained the weight back so fast is
because your metabolism went into shock.
I totally relate b/c I am in the same
boat. Restriction of highly refined
carbs is good. Not restriction of all
carbs.

Atkins is good. Restricting your carbs
is good. The reason is, (you see most
people knock atkins before ever actually
reading about it, or doing it the correct
way) when you are overweight, and you eat
carbs, your body (ie metabolism) breaks
down the carbs that you are eating. When
you do not eat carbs, or eat very little,
your body turns your fat into energy and
burns it instead. That is why the weight
loss.
If atkins is followed properly it is very
good and healthy. You don't have to be
on atkins for the rest of your life, but
you also cannot just start eating a bunch
of junk and expect to stay small. If you
continue to eat healthy and properly
according to the last phase of atkins then
you will not gain the weight back, but
most people don't do this and then
complain when they get heavy again.
Atkins is very healthy. Lots of people
say that it isn't, but they are the ones
who have not read about it and figured out
why it is healthy. Before I read
information on it I said the same thing.
But scientifically it is very very
healthy.
Not for everyone of course for various
reasons, but for the general population.
But it is good advice to watch going off
of atkins for your pregnancy so you don't
gain a lot of weight. (well, anymore
than the pregnancy)

Ok<<< bull crap!!!!! I have not
been eating alot of junk.. I watch
everything I eat !! The only thing is, I
chose to eat things that are actually good
for me ie. Fruit. Which is not allowed
on atkins !!!!! And another thing, sure
it makes you loose weight, but what is
your heart looking like with all the fat
that you are consuming.. I was in the
store the other day and they had a low
carb alfredo sauce and I checked to see
the difference, there was 1 less carb than
in the normal alfredo sauce but the fat in
the low carb jar was much higher !! I
read my labels and I don"t eat junk !! So
im sorry that you are stereotyping me !!!
That makes me so angry... You freaking
dont understand .. I cry, and hit my
stomach because I hate myself so much..
So dont freaking start on me about junk..
That is soooo not cool !!

Low Carb Posted: 05-20-04 10:14am
Im 37 and a half weeks and have been on a
low carb diet for my entire pregnancy.
Due to this I lost some weight at first
and actually havent gained much. I was
instructed not to do the atkin's because
you need way more carbs than they allow
you, but a low carb diet is perfectly
healthy. Just remember to eat your fruits
and veggies and it will even help you out
on your glucose tests. Good luck!

That is so refreshing to hear!!!! I have
been avoiding going back on a low carb
diet because I am trying to get pregnant.
Can you tell me more about what you have
eaten during your pregnancy? What about
morning sickness? I really want to
hear!!!

I started my low carb diet allowing myself
up to 30 carbs a day. You can also have
up to 2 glasses of lowfat milk a day, and
some low carb muffins without counting
these as carbs. The basic carbs that you
need you dont have to count. After two
weeks, you can start adding 5 more carbs a
week until you reach 60. So, just try to
stay healthy and eat the basic good foods.
Dont deny yourself too much. Dont really
eat too much pasta or bread, but you can
eat about 3 pieces of low-carb white bread
a day without it counting as part of your
30 carbs. Eat at least 2 fruits a day
also without counting them. Keep healthy
and I wish you the best!

Congrats hun. . .I dont know about the
staying on the diet while pregnant tho.
Sure, some may do it. But alot of docs
advise against any sort of dieting when
pregnant. A growing baby needs those
carbs.. .Not to lecture.. But I was
dieting too. But I wont continue till
after my son comes..

See, that sounds sensible to me.. How
much weight have you lost so far? I
tried atkins before, I lost so much weight
so fast, but I think I was doing more of a
starvation diet than a low carb diet.
Lol.. I didn't hardly ever eat, and when
I did it was usually eggs or tuna...
