I am thinking of joining the Fire Service
in the UK and found on their website the
requirements for eyesight which you must
pass to gain entrance
The requirements are as follows:
# Have uncorrected distance visual acuity
of 6/6, 6/6, as measured by an appropriate
test, unaided.
# Be able to read N12 at 30cm unaided with
both eyes open.
# See at least 6/60 unaided with each eye
individually.
# Have a normal visual field in each eye,
as determined by confrontation techniques.
i'm not really sure what any of this means
and was looking for some guidance from
someone in the know.
I visited an Optometrist recently and my
results were 6/5 and 6/36+1
i am aware that my eyesight is quite bad
in one eye but was hoping that overall
vision is taken as as average of both eyes
and one eye can compensate for the other.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Have you contacted the Fire Service?
Do you know anyone who works for them?
