Hey, Im 6 weeks tomorrow and I was wondering when do you make the first doctors appointment? And what can I expect to happen there? I know there are blood tests, so I am also wondering if anyone else shares my extreme fear of them? Not only that but they make me so sick for about 2 days!

It will depend on your doctor what happens at the first appointment. Generally, you will pee in a cup. You will get weighed. You'll get your blood pressure taken. I've never had blood tests on the first appointment - although I'm sure some women have. You will have a gynecological exam (pap smear) and the doctor will feel where your cervix is. He can 'estimate' how far along you are by the size of your uterus at this point. You'll get a prescription for prenatal vitamins and that is that.

That sounds good to me. The longer I don't have to get any blood tests for the better! All those other things are nothing.

on my first dr. appt I had to pee in a cup, get weighed, fill out lots of paper work and have lots of blood work done. I never saw my dr. on the 1st visit. Just the nurse. The second visit is when I met the dr. and she did an ultrasound. I hate having bloodwork done, but honestly it really wasnt that bad.

If blood work didn't make me so sick I'd be fine with it. I have no idea why it has such an affect on me. I've seen lots of blood in my life , including my own. And I don't like needles but they don't bother me. And I also don't think it hurts. Can they take it out of your leg or something? Maybe its just taking it out of my arm that bothers me.

You'll have to get blood work done. It's not optional. You'll get used to it. I think they'll probably insist on taking it out of your arm.
