Type O-negative Blood
Posted: 09-11-07 10:26am

I've heard that I am blessed with "giver's blood," a universal blood type that all can receive. I am O Negative.
I am looking to help individuals with no resort, children especially. If you know of anyone that is need of blood, I am willing to help in any way I can.

You are indeed! I work in the Blood Bank in the Lab at the hospital in my town and the need for blood donors is very crucial right now! Check out the American Red Cross blood donation center in your hometown. Type O negative blood is the type is all people can recieve. I've experienced so many emergency situations where the patients recieve O negative because we know nothing about the patient's blood type. Also, babies are given O negative blood too. In situations where you have a friend or family member who is going to have a major surgery and will need to recieve blood, you can give blood for them. This is called a 'directed donation', although this is not an immediate thing. When you give the donation, it still has to be processed and tested but I think it takes about a week or so, maybe less than that. The ARC would be able to tell you more that directed donations if you were intrested in that. Either way, giving blood is such a great thing, when you see the situations I've seen, and the life that it gives back to people, it makes you realize how simple and incredible giving blood could do for a person in need. I hope this information helps and please go donate soon, and every 8 weeks for that matter!

I definitely will be donating my blood as soon as possible. I didn't even know my blood type until last year when I became pregnant and had to receive RHOGAM shots.... which burnt my booty soooooo bad! haha
I have been donating plasma as well. I know that has nothing to do with blood type, but it helps others as well.
I've heard that donating plasma was more painful than donating blood, which musn't hurt at all seeing how easy it was to donate plasma. The only thing was that you get really cold when they are pumping your blood back in because of the saline they mix with it.
