Chemo After Kidney Removal? Posted: 09-11-07 14:12pm
my friend has testicular cancer and has
already had chemo and is ready for the
surgery to remove what's left...they said
that they might have to remove a kidney bc
part of the tumor is attached. but if the
cancer came back down the road, can you
have chemo again if you only have one
kidney??

Hi!
In general, adjuvant therapy is given
after surgery to destroy any microscopic
pockets of cancerous cells that may be
left behind. This therapy consists of
radiation therapy directed at the former
site of the tumor, or systemic therapy
such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy. If
he gets metastatic cancer again(testicular
or in kidney) he can be treated and
respond well on chemotherapy although he
has one kidney.
