Large Hernia Mesh And Pregnancy Posted: 09-11-07 20:58pm
Hello,
I had a large incisional hernia repaired
with mesh about a year and a half ago. At
the time, my surgeon assured me I would be
able to carry a baby through pregnancy and
delivery, even though the mesh was on the
larger side, about 10" square I believe.
Now my husband and I are ready to start
trying for baby number two. However after
searching online for more information as
far as what to expect during pregnancy, I
am finding scary stuff about large meshes
restricting the uterus and inhibiting the
growth of the baby. I am just wondering
if anyone out there is in the same boat as
me, or if anyone has had any experience
with this sort of large hernia mesh and
pregnancy.
Thanks so much.

Hernia Mesh And Pregnancy Posted: 11-27-07 03:38am
Hi euclidmama,
I had a large hernia mesh inserted in
April of 2006. At the time my doctor
advised me that it would be ok to become
pregnant although I was not planning on
having any more kids. I am now 7 1/2
months pregnant and so far haven't
experienced any serious complications due
to the pregnancy. There is however,
discomfort. On the plus side, the mesh has
helped keep my tummy growth to a minimum.
I look about 4 months pregnant! I'll keep
you posted as the due date gets closer.

I'm very curious to hear as well! Posted: 04-01-08 23:16pm
I've also had a large abdominal mesh put
in for a surgical hernia repair and have
been wondering how this would affect
pregnancy. My first guess is that it
would hurt when the scar tissue tears as
the uterus grows but what else? What
happens if you have to have a C-section?
