Pain In Shoulder And Arm...can Anyone Help? Posted: 09-12-07 08:51am
Im not quiet sure if this fits back
pain...but it kind of starts there.
Anyway, let me explain. Recently I started
waking up in the middle of the night with
pain in my right shoulder that continued
all the way down my right arm into my
hand. It kind of feels like a sharp pain,
my hand swells and I get that weird
feeling when your hand just fell asleep
and its waking up. I have this every night
for about 2 weeks so I know it cant be
from sleeping on my right side.
I think that it might have something to do
with my new work that I started 4 weeks
ago. Im working in a deli and never just a
slicer before. I have to use my right arm
a lot at work. But after Im off for 2 days
it feels better.
Anyone have an idea what it could be? or
what I could do?
thank you.

Sounds neurological. Can you see a
specialist? Do you have insurance?

we are getting insurance through my
husbands job. But it wont kick in till
october, because thats when the new cycle
begins. Its kinda hard to explain.
The Insurance I have now is called HWI (I
think) and it will only cover up to
300.00$ for a regular doctor. I just have
to wait another 2weeks, I guess.
Thank you for your help, tho.

Shoulder And Arm Pain Posted: 09-19-07 11:38am
I have had exactly the same thing for over
2 years now (except mine is on the left
side) and no doctors can figure out what
is wrong. They say there is a problem
with the Trapezius muscle but they don't
know what. I have a lot of fluid in my
shoulder but they don't know why either.
What they are doing now is sending me to a
specialist for pain management. I have
already had 4 cortisone shots which help
for a few days but then back to the pain
and numbness. Id o get some relief form a
muscle relaxer called Zanaflex and also a
very very low dose of extended release
Morphine. This is after being on Darvocet
and a different (and potentially very
addictive) muscle relaxer called Soma
compound with Codeine. I had been taking
Darvocet for about 2 years and the Soma
for a few months. I did get relief from
them for a while but then had to start
taking higher doses to get relief and so I
was switched because of the addiction
factor. Thats one of the things I love
about my current doctor that hes very
concerned about me getting an addiction to
these meds so he monitors me very closely.
He even calls me just to check on how I
am doing. But I also have a few more
things going on at the same time that they
can't figure out as well. So I guess I
wrote all this to say the when you do go
for help make sure that it's with a doctor
that really listens to you and who is
concerned about what meds he puts you on.
If your doctor seems to be one who just
wants to keep you medicated and isn't
really doing much else the I suggest you
find a different one to avoid a
potentially dangerous situation. When I
first went to him he did a lot of blood
work and tests and when they can back
negative he sent me to a neurologist and
then to a rheumotologist and now to the
pain management specialist. He also took
care to fine me caring concerned doctors
to send me to and they all are working
together to find a solution and all of
them have pledged not to give up until I
get answer of what is going on. So, just
make sure you speak up for yourself
because when you are in a situation where
they son't know what is going on with you
some doctors just kind of give upa nd give
you heavy duty medications. Good luck and
keep me posted to you progress.
