I started college on tuesday, but today was the first full day I've had so far & it was seriously awesome. I'm doing holistic therapy, or complementary & alternative therapy as it's also known.. & as well as some theory work, I have two days of practical work a week, which involve body massage, aromatherapy & reflexology.

Well this morning it was reflexology, so we watched the tutor demonstrate a "warm-up massage" & got into pairs to practise on each other. It was soooo relaxing. Usually I HATE feet... but while you're doing the massage you concentrate so hard on getting the techniques right that you forget you're doing it on someone's foot.

This afternoon was even better... we got into pairs again & practised back massages on each other, & the girl I was paired with had already done like a year of massage therapy so she was amazing at it. It was such a relaxing day.. & to top it off I had McDonalds for lunch.

*sigh*

It's just so nice to have days like that, & I'm actually learning too! Jenny's crawling all over the place & she's into EVERYTHING right now.. particularly wine bottles & wires Rolling Eyes so I'm chasing her everywhere, & then picking her up, which really hurts my back. The girl who massaged me commented on all the tension in my back, & the fact that holding Jenny on my left hip has slightly put my spine out of alignment.

I have all these massage skills already & I wanna practise on people! Anyone fancy it? Laughing

My mum at the moment, but that's because I haven't found a nursery for her yet. They're all either full or ridiculously expensive or won't take any children under 2. I need to find one soon though, my mum's going on holiday in 3 weeks.. plus I feel bad leaving her to look after Jenny. My mum does like spending time with her, but she very often makes a fuss if I ask her to babysit.

Thats awesome! I am just about finish my first term in Massage Therapy school, so I knw exactly how you feel..It's so much fun and its really exciting. I've gotta learn all the science stuff too, but it's so interesting...There are actually a couple of people in my class studying holistic therapies. I so want to learn refelxology too! We trade in class too and it's so nice when we get a whole hour massage..aaahhh heaven!
I am glad you are having fun so far and excited about it. Get your hands on as many people as you can, it really helps oh and dont forget to get bodywork for yourself too, especially running around with your lil one all day.
Good luck!

I wish you lived here. I am looking for someone into holistic therapy. I love massages with warm beds, warm rocks and aromatherapy!! I think a doula should be a massage therapist as well.

I want a massage so bad right now.

Oh man I love those massages too! The hot stones are awesome!
I bet there are doula's or midwives who do massage therapy. I have actually thought about that, I would love to do pregnancy massage also.
Zanny,
How long does your program take? I just think it's so awesome you are getting into this too Smile

It's a 1 year course.. It also involves studying anatomy, physiology & pathology, & business studies as well. I want to set up my own business own day, so this is the perfect course for me!

It's cool that you're doing something similar! You should look into doing a reflexology course if it interests you, I've only had one class so far & I'm already fascinated by it!

I hope your course goes well for you Smile

The basic course at the massage school takes 1 year as well but I am going to take 2 extra terms to learn some different modalities, so all together it will take me 18months. We have the same courses as well..anatomy &physiology, pathology, kinesiology, there will be a term where we will do clinic as well as study business. Thats one of my goals as well is to have my own private practice.
I am enjoying my courses so far and your right it is all so fascinating!
Good luck on everything and keep us updated...You can also pm me anytime Smile
I am so excited fo you!
