About three months ago, I was diagnosised
with HPV. I didn't have any genital warts
but found some on the back of my legs in
the knee area.
Went in for a second pap smear and biopsy
as the first had shown the high risk types
for HPV.
I showed my new GYN the warts on my legs.
There were quite a few and some just under
the skin you could feel.
Then, about two weeks ago, I looked at my
legs and they were gone. Totally gone.
My doctor told me that I am healthy and
strong and that perhaps my body has
overcome this.
I asked him if I still have HPV and he
said yes. I will need to take a pap smear
every six months to insure that everything
is alright.
Can warts just spontaniously disappear
like that?
Thanks

Yes, I think they can. Outbreaks come and
go when you have HPV. Some women never get
an outbreak, some get them repeatedly for
the rest of their lives.

yes. that is why they are kinda a pain.
You always have the virus, some women
never break out. others do. Or if your
partner has breakouts and you have
intercourse you to can become infected and
never have an outbreak, or have one.
Thats why its so hard to treat because it
can come and go. Just do what your doctor
said and get regular exams and know your
partners history as well..

They say you should be wiser when you get
older, but the sad truth with people like
me who have been in a long term marriage
and not been out there sexually, you are
just plain stupid and dumb. It never even
occurred to me to think of sexual
protection. Now. that is dumb.
Now, obviously, this is something I will
have to live with for the rest of my life.
I just trusted this guy. Young, sweet,
clean and it seemed to me he would never
have anything like HPV to pass along to
me. But, he did. And, he still denies he
has anything.
At least we have parted as friends.
Thanks for your help.

yeah i know what you mean. I got married
a year ago and my partner had an outbreak
and had no idea he even had it. The
doctor said it could even be passed
through warts on your hands, and than
touching yourself down there. so i dunno
which way he actually got it. Bad news
yeah i have to live with this for the rest
of my life and so does he, but the good
news is it does come and go and once you
know how to treat it and deal with it you
can deal with it ya know. am sorry about
your situation. Your definitly not alone
though. good luck

Not to defend this guy too much, but maybe
he didn't know. It's not like guys go in
for annual exams.... there are a lot of
things that don't show up as well on guys.
Of course, for all we know he was covered
in warts in his past and just wanted to
get some booty.

He wouldn't even know he had it, unless he
had warts.

Also it is not always the guys who passes
it to someone else. The female could have
it and pass it to a clean man, therefore
affecting him.
Also Roberta like I have told you before,
you very well could have had this with
your previous husband and you didn't even
know it. It can stay dormant for many
years and suddenly have an outbreak.
Like someone else said, just do what your
doctor says and follow his treatment plan.

Thanks to all of you for your responses.
In good faith, I asked this man,
unfortunately the next day after we had
been intimate, how many partners he had.
He said nobody since his wife. Liar,
liar, pants on fire. I told him if he
slept with a lot of partners that would
really put me at risk as everybody he
slept with, I would now be sleeping with
them and everybody they had ever been with
sexually.
I asked my original doctor when she
thought I got this thing and she said
about two months before I came down with
it. I know I got a really severe vaginal
infection. Itching, pain, redness, hot
urination and even some blood.
When I asked my BF about it, he calmly
said, you have a yeast infection. My wife
has them all the time. Go to the pharmacy
and get Monistant and it will go away.
Also, when I was so upset getting a
disease from him, he also, calmly said, I
don't have any warts. I think this young
man is pretty savvy on sexual topics.
And, he had just returned from a holiday
in Mexico at Cabo San Lucas with his
single buddies. Came home and was with me
and I got this thing.
I can appreciate the opinions of all of
you who say I could have had this all
along. But, as my husband was a diabetic
and we didn't have sex for probably 10
years and I had a clean slate when I had a
pap smear five years ago, I find that to
be probably pretty unlikely.
When I have tried to talk to my former BF,
he claims he had all the tests when he
came back from Mexico because his doctor
thought he had STD's and it all came back
negative. He said he didn't have HPV. I
told him, there is no test for men for
HPV.
He fails to realize that because he never
used protection with me (with his other
girl friend he did because she must have
known him better than I did), that by
having sexual relations with me he now
puts not only me, himself and his young
pregnant wife at risk. The other woman is
a lot smarter than me.
no offence.. but why would you sleep with
someone whos married anyways?

Roberta sorry to hear you got the hpv but
you will be fine. Just make sure you don't
miss any gyn visits because now those are
important for the remaining of your life.
Beware if the doctor says to you that you
have a high risk hpv strain, ask him again
if it is one of the high risk strains
because those tend to be a real problem,
if they did a biopsy of your cervix means
they did found lessions and you know the
problem with the high risk strains is that
they are hard to get rid off. They are
going to be constantly trying to attack
your cervix and you know it is no cure.
All you can do is stay healthy, low stress
life (stress weakens the inmune system)
and take a folic acid supplements. Will be
good that you read as much as you can
about the virus.
there is two types of hpv.......the warts
(visible) and the cervical type (catched
with pap smears) The warts are easy to
control and they are not going to give you
cancer. The cervical type is nice as you
don't see it but this is the one that puts
you at risk of cervical cancer. A low risk
strain means they are less likely to cause
pre-cancerous lessions. A high risk
strains means it has high potential to
cause pre-cancerous lessions. Okay so if
you have lessions they will have to take
them out as they are pre-cancerous. They
will do with leeps, freezing, cone
biopsies and so on. And you will continue
on observation. Typically one of the
procedures gets rid of the problem once
for all but if it's a high risk strain
they are likely to come back and you get
lessions again and same process goes on.
The more procedures you have then the more
the cervix will weaken. If you are done
with children then you definetly have
nothing to worry about, only if you wanted
to have children then you can see where
the danger is..
hope this helps. Feel free to ask. I have
researched on the virus because I have it,
though i have a weak strain that seems to
be gone for good.

I agree that being with someone who is
already taken, spoken for, married is
wrong. I kept saying that for over three
months. All I can say is this is a
marriage going down the tubes.
Even with a baby coming, they are breaking
up. Just too young and immature to
realize they are good for each other. Only
time will tell and if they can grow up to
know they are trully meant for each other.
I pray for them every single day. And,
honestly, I can see some maturity and hope
in Lee for the future. That is a blessing
for all of us.

To Nightangel,
My pathology report stated that I had high
risk types of HPV which included the high
risk panel containing 13 HPV types: 16,
18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 51, 58, 59 and
68.
I know when they did that biopsy it was
like someone had cut a piece out of my
body. The doctor was nice and kept saying
there was no way it wasn't going to really
hurt. And, it did. Almost came off that
table.0
Thank you for explaining to me how this
can affect you. I have been so grateful
for eHealth forum as in the beginning I
didn't have the slightest idea what HPV
was.
When my doctor called to tell me the
results, a flag went up when she said high
risk types of HPV which can cause cervical
cancer. That scared me as our family has
a high risk factor for cancer.
She said 16 is a dangerous one but they
would monitor me every six months.
There was another website where it
actually showed lesions on the cervix.
Almost makes you think of Leprosy. Must
somehow be a related virus causing that
terrible disease.
Thanks for your help Nightangel.

Cervical cancer is not hereditary. It is,
as you now know, caused by HPV. But, good
news! That is why women have pap smears
and why pap smears were invented.
Cervical cancer is also the most easily
treated cancer there is. If it ever
progresses to that, which it doesn't
generally - especially not with regular
pap smears checking your cervix for
microscopic cell changes.
