Welll.....Skyler Patricia is finally here. I had her exactley on her due date. Friday Sept. 14th @ 4:33 pm. She is soo perfect in every way. She weighed 6lbs 5oz and 20 inches long. Has a full head of brownish/blonde hair. Everyone was saying how it looks like she has highlights.hehe. But anyways....Im nursing and in the hospital they told me not to give her a passy b/c we needed to focus on her feeding. I heard something that babies that dont sleep with passys are at risk of sids. I would love to not have to rely on a passy with her. Has anyone not given their child a passy? And has anyone heard the risk of sids with babies not sleeping with passys?? Im just curious.

Yay! Congratulations! I'm glad she's here and doing fine.

As for pacifiers, my sister never used them with either of her 2 boys and they are just fine, my mom told me she never used them with my 2 sisters or me either. I think during the first month of life, the risk of SIDS is supposed to be lower anyway and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends delaying the use of a pacifier until after the first month for breastfed babies to help the baby get used to breastfeeding.

Congrats on your new arrival. Hope all is well and you are getting some rest. I'm not sure about the relationship between SIDS and paci's, but my daughter is a month old and has yet to sleep with a paci. She won't even hardly take it; I wouldn't worry too much about it. Personally, I think if a baby is going to have SIDS, they are going to have it no matter what. It has to do with an abnormality in the brain.

Good luck with breastfeeding. Neither me or my sister were given a dummy and we're both still here alive and kicking lol and my 11 week old daughter doesn't have one and neither did my nephew. it really is a personal choice, i don't like them so that's why my daughter doesn't have one. i agree with mamaTT sometimes things just happen no matter what you do to try and prevent them. If you really want your baby to take a dummy then when breastfeeding is established give her one. Also if the risk was alot greater then every parent would give thrier child one and it would be one of those things you automatically buy

Finally!!! Congrats! How are you feeling?

Pacifiers are one of those things that some people like and some don't. If you find that she just likes to suck and you feel like a human pacifier than give her one. If and When you go looking for one find one that you can buy anywhere. If by chance you lose one, you want to replace it and fast.
Some people say they reduce the risk of SIDS, but I think if a baby is going to have an issue it will happen with our without a passy
