yeah i know what you mean
they KNOW they want to have an
abortion...thats why they go to get
one...makeing them sit through a
counceling session and then putting them
through a guilt trip for 24 hrs...not
neccessary

Yes, like I said, forcing the woman to
LOOK at it and all that 24 hour counseling
stuff is crap. What, is she buying a gun
or something!? Nope. Just exersizing her
right to control her own body.

I did not have an U/S either. It was a
private medical facility; I don't know if
that makes a difference.
One doesn't have to watch brain surgery
videos beforehand, and that is far more
dangerous.
It is very insulting to insist a woman
look at an U/S before an abortion. I was
intensely irritated that I had to just
speak with a counselor in a private
session beforehand.
Perhaps that aspect should be offered,
not forced. I also had to watch a very
"E" rated video on what the procedure
entailed.
On one hand, if an U/S is enough to change
a woman's mind surely there are other
indicators of that, too? Doubt? And in
that case, an abortion may not be the
right answer for her.
I struggle with determining if it's the
nurses/physicians responsibility to be
part and parcel with one's decision to
have an abortion. I guess they do it so
people don't backtrack and blame them if
they regret it instead of taking
responsibility for their own decision.

ANY abortion clinic that does not give an
ultrasound should be sued.
ALL clinics should give an U/S, because it
is the ONLY way to determine if the
pregnancy is actually in the uterus. It
could also be a MOLAR pregnancy, or twin
pregnancy, which would REQUIRE extra
care!
WERE either of you asleep for the
abortion? Or sedated?
They sometimes will do the ultrasound
during the abortion.
Go to this link
http://www.gynpages.com
ALL clinics here use an ultrasound, these
are REPUTABLE and liscensed facilities.

FUTURE SHOCK-
The womans last period could have been 7
MONTHS AGO, yet she may only be 8 weeks
pregnant.
I have NEVER EVER heard of a woman here in
the US having an abortion without an
ultrasound...
LAST period does not tell you anything
really, only a U/S can.

They also often to a special VAGINAL
ULTRASOUND, so you may not even know that
you had one...
Especially if you are drugged up..
It is considered common practice in
medicine to have an ultrasound before an
abortion.
This is because NOT all pregnancies are
even in the uterus, or they can be
multiples, or molars, and abortion in this
case would require extra care and
time..etc..

Well Goddang, I didn't have an ultrasound
and I was not sedated. I know they didn't
sneak one in.
This was two years ago.
I really didn't think twice about this; I
just didn't know better.

Wow birch !
You could have an ectopic or Molar
pregnancy, and could have had pretty major
complications.
Where was this clinic at?

Well, I didn't have an u/s and to my
knowledge it's not common practise here in
Canada, yet we have a lower complication
rate and maternal death rate (something
like one in 1.3 million procedures) from
legal abortion than the US does.
As for ectopic pregnancy, I'm sure they'd
figure it out when the uterine contents
don't contain an embryo/fetus etc.

If you were asleep for the abortion, they
can do it then...
ALL of the "Morgentaler clinics" perform
an U/S before an abortion..
This clinic does too..
http://www.medicalabo
rtion.ca/faqs.htm#q11
This is a question in the FAQ. They do
perform an u/s to date the pregnancy.
When I look at abortion websites in
Canada, they always mention ultrasound.

I am not saying that "OMG, you are
lying"..
I am saying OMG, you did not get a u/s?!
One clinic in Florida was completely shut
DOWN for not doing an ultrasound, and the
woman later had problems..

This is exactly the same question your
obgyn asks when you are pregnant and
keeping the baby, and you are having your
first prenatal visit. Everything is
calculated from your answer, from your due
date to how far along you are at that
moment. |
With my abortion the fetus was one week
less than my dates (and even a week can
make a difference to the procedure) and
this was determined by an ultrasound. (I
looked at it also).
I thought this happened before all
abortions, strange!

In the US, you are supposed to get an U/S
before any abortion.
Clinics are shut down because they have
broken rules, which is considered
negligence.

I just wanted to post that the clinic I
used now does U/S, which was not their
policy two years ago. They also require a
face to face mtg. w/ a physician as well,
also something not policy two years ago.
I guess legislation has changed?

I looked at the site you showed me...
I know someone who works there, she has
worked there for 5 years..
She says that she has never seen a patient
not have an U/S, as she is the U/S
technician.
OHIO recently passed what is called a 24hr
rule...
Meaning that you have to meet with the
doctor 24 hours prior to the abortion.
A few other states have mandatory 24
waiting periods.
They were supposed to do a u/s...

Wow, that's just scary that some places
will mess with women's health like that.
It's all well and good saying the doctor
would notice a problem when he attempted
the abortion but surely it's better to
know beforehand if the pregnancy is not in
the uterus?
Also, a woman could lie about how far
along she is to get the procedure she
prefers and end up putting herself at
risk.

Well that is startling Carifairy. I was
quite "aware" for the entire time and they
did not do an ultrasound.

WOW Birch..
Your medical records would still be in the
clinic, I would call and ask to look at
them.
IF they did a u/s, it would have been in
your records.
I would actually send an email to the
director explaining that you never had an
ultrasound, and that you are wondering why
that had happened. You could mention that
you learned online that a u/s is an
extremely vital and important aspect of an
abortion, and you would like to know why
you did not get one.
