Birth Control Important Question Posted: 09-17-07 22:06pm
I recently went to Planned Parenthood and
got birth control (the pill). I told the
woman the first day of my period last
month was the 30th. The birth control they
gave me has the 3 weeks of birth control
and then the week of placebo pills. If I
follow my pack exactly and have my period
this month around the same time as last
month (which is normal for me) I will be
on my period when I am taking birth
control pills and taking my placebo pills
when I am not on my period and possibly
sexually active. is this healthy? Should I
start my placebo pills the day I start my
period and then just go back to the rest
of my birth control pills? Or should I
just follow the pack exactly the way it
is?

First off, the pills will reset your
cycle, so it doesn't matter when you used
to have your period. Once on the pills,
you will get your period during the
placebo week only. You may get a little
spotting this month during the active
pills, but you will not get a period until
the placebo week. Never change the order
of the pills!! If you start the active
pills right now, aka, not during your
period, then you will need to wait one
week before you will be safe from
pregnancy.
Secondly, it is safe to have sex during
any time of the month on birth control,
even the placebo week!
If your real period is fairly close to
coming, and you haven't started the pills
yet, then what you can do is wait for your
period to start, and then start taking the
pills: BEGINNING with the active pills!
Never start on the placebo pills because
they don't do anything, so you may as well
not take them. If you start taking your
active pills on the first day of your
period, you will be safe immediately.
