Recovery Alcoholic - 11 days sober - going to AA meetings Posted: 09-18-07 19:22pm
I'm doing pretty well. I went to another
AA meeting today at a different time/same
place. It's been 11 days. I feel like that
was the "other me" when I drank. It wasn't
me. Now I am getting some backlash from my
husband who has been supportive, but I
know he is having feelings come out that
have been hidden because he was afraid it
would send me to drink. It's been no
picnic but I know its part of the healing
process for all of us. I have a long road
to go down, but it's worth it to keep my
family and my life together. So far some
of the AA meetings have been o.k. It's
still lifting my spirits to know that
other people have done this and I can too.
I take away what I can and remain silent
during prayers and what not. It's what
works for me right now. But thank you for
asking and I plan on going to another
meeting Thursday.

That is really great that you are so
positive about the whole experience. I
would have to say that right now the time
is for you to get better and your husband
needs to understand this. Now is the time
that you need him to be your support.
Don't stop your good progress. You can
only do better for yourself.
Remember One Day at a Time.
Another piece of advice I can give you is
to seek out a sponsor. A sponsor (a
female one) can help you through the tough
times and help you down the road to
recovery. Usually you want to find
someone that has at least a year of
abstinence but preferably more than that.
They are a great tool to have to work on
your steps. I am a recovering
addict/alcoholic of almost 6 years.
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk.
Also, what part of the Burgh are you from?
I used to live there about 7 years ago in
Highland Park. Also in Wexford and Mt.

I live in the eastern suburbs of Pgh.
Plum/Murrysville area. I used to think I
could tackle things alone, I didn't need
anyone and I thought that made me strong.
I thought it proved I had strength and
courage to go it alone, but what I'm
finding through AA is that my real
strength is being able to listen and
accept help from other people. It's hard
to open up, it's extremely uncomfortable,
but I'm getting a little better at it.
I'll go to another AA tomorrow...Thank You
for all your support.
