Do you think that you recycle enough? Do good for the planet? There's a nifty little game from american public radio that you can play to see what would happen if everyone in the world lived as you do. find it at www.consumerconsequences.o rg It's pretty interesting.

Are you living a sustainable life?

That was pretty cool.

I was at 2.2 (the number of Earths it would take to sustain everyone if everyone lived like me) and that's pretty amazing considering how conscious we are about it. I'm not sure what else we can do - I would like to install a solar panel in our house, but it is ironically very expensive. Every lightbulb is one of those energy sustaining ones; and I'll tell you what we haven't had to replace a lightbulb in two years. If we didn't have a flock of dogs I could have a garden. *sigh* If only our society was set up more to be eco conscious.

I can't wait til my bike gets here. *sigh*

Thanks for posting that Heather; it was really interesting.

I wish we lived closer. I would like to hang out w/ you. *love*

I was at 2.7, but it was hard for me to calculate it since I live in a dorm. Technically, ALL of my meals are prepared "out of the home", except that it's all dining hall food, and made just like you'd make your own food at home.

Secondly, aside from cheating and saying my nonexistent car gets 100% fuel efficiency, there's no way to take out the car factor, except that I don't own one.

I had no way to calculate the expendeture on electricity so I left them blank. We have a coal plant right next to the campus and a nuke plant about 15 miles away. On a good clear day you can see both lol.

Gadzooks, I'm ashamed. I was at 3.5. Guess I won't be asked to join one of the first moon colonies!

You are in luck Birchie! They have just developed solar panels which are going to be available at a mere 1/3 the cost of traditional solar panels at Colorado State university. They are building a factory as we speak, a mere 1.5 miles from where I live. Lower cost solar energy is areound the corner.

Why the hell do you live there anyway???? You know you CAN escape the midwest! many have done it successfully..... Wink
