Are Gambit Neuro Test Conclusive? Posted: 09-23-07 13:17pm
New to this disease. Already R/O
Parkinson's and alzhiemers. MRI w/wo
contrast showed white matter leisons
remarkable for MS. Also, L-Spin had a
hurniation in L-1,2,3, with some
narrowing. I think that may have been from
a fall I have on my cyxics bone several
years ago or does that corrilate with MS?
neve conductiong study came back abnormal
on left side arm and leg. Numbness and
tingling, yes. I have all of the ten
symptoms and have had for about 3 years.
Just never addressed it.
Now my question is, I have opted not to
have the LP. Reason being, through my
research and asking veterans of this
disease, I find that most if not all come
back inconclusive and negitive. So, I say
why put myself through that with all the
rest of my illness ( and I have plenty on
my plate).
Is the gambit of Neuro testing and the
showing up of what matter leisons enought
to go on. Can I just leave it at that and
go with the flow and just keep learning
and understanding to deal with it?
Thanks Doc

From What I Know Posted: 09-23-07 15:04pm
From what I know which is not all that
much the LP would just be to confirm the
diagnosis from the MRI, there are a couple
other things that can leave MS like
leisions and the LP will show that it is
not them. I know they can also do an
evoked potential which I don't know
anything about since I did not get it
done.
The LP is usualy not too bad, granted mine
was, but friend of mine has had 4 and they
were all fine so if your doc thinks you
need it to determine what is going on for
sure then get it. 1 LP is better than a
bunch of avonex shots you don't need.

He Did'nt Seem to Care Posted: 09-23-07 17:11pm
Hmmmm, He was just going to go with the
neuro studies and not mention the Lumbar
Pucture. It was not untill I had a falling
out with him LOL, basically faxed him and
told his a$$ off because he was going to
leave the room acturally left the room
saying when I said "Hey, what about my
test results", He says, Oh don't worry,
nothing serious". Was glad I had the
background and could read my own reports.
I was livid to say the least and Monday I
am calling for a new refferl. Yep, he is
fired. He was not going to tell me I had
MS, I had to read it for myself! All test
coming back pretty much positive for the
disease. After all, white matter leisons
don't glow for nothing.
So, Monday I start shopping for a new
Neuro. I'm Ok with the MS. I just don't
want him to manage the care.

Well I'm on my second neuro also and
looking for a third.
Although I'm not looking that hard
anymore. My current neuro and I did not
start off well but she is a specialist in
MS and her office is close so it has been
convienient plus her nurse is awesome so I
have just sort of put up with her but
after a couple battles of will I think we
can work together. The first one is the
one that told me I didn't have MS then
when I relapsed again and I found out that
had he dx'd me back 3 years ago I could
have been on treatment all this time and
maybe saved a relapse or two. Screw that!
i can't belive he wouldn't give you your
dx with all the info, thats crazy. Good
Luck finding one who cares.
