Vitamin C, D3 And Omega For Cancer Fighting ??? Posted: 09-23-07 16:57pm
Good Day
I first want to thank you for all the help
that has been provided on this forum. A
lot of interesting and useful information.
This which brings on this next question:
I have heard that certain vitamins were
good for the cancer fighting or deterring
of the disease. Such are as indicated. C,
D3, and OMEGA.
Is there any truth to this? I would like
to know if there is any vitamin, either
these or others which I should consider. I
am a papilary cancer survivor in search of
future prevention.
Regards
Larry D.

Hi!
There are scientific evidences for a
significant association between cancer
protection and the consumption of fruit
and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables are
rich in vitamins, minerals and other
biochemicals, that are playing an
important role in body's metabolic
processes and are essential for staying in
good health and prevention of number of
disease, including different types of
cancers.
The mechanisms of action of vitamins and
other micronutrients in general are
numerous, complex and some may function as
antioxidants or in DNA repair, others act
as antimutagens.
Vitamin C is one of the most potent
antioxidant vitamins(antioxidants are
preventing cell damage by interacting and
stabilizing the free radicals, very
reactive molecules that are causing damage
to DNA and cell proteins-DNA damage is
linked to cancer appearance.) Vitamin C is
important for an efficient immune
system(first cancer cells that are
developed are destroyed by efficient
immune system), healthy body tissue and is
known that inhibits the formation of
some cancerogenic substances.
Vitamin D deficiency causes an increase in
cell proliferation, another known risk
factor for cancer(uncontrolled
proliferation is one of the main cancer
cell characteristics.
Omega 3 fatty acids discourage certain
cancers from starting and slow progression
of some cancers by damping of inflammation
(a cause and growth promoter of common
cancers).
Folic acid, B6 and B12 vitamins are
involved in different parts of DNA repair,
thus preventing cancer appearance.
Vitamin E, one of the body’s main
antioxidants, is important in cell
maintenance and researchers recently
suggested that vitamin E potentially slows
prostate cancer growth.
There is association between lower risk of
many types of cancer and beta
carotene(antioxidant).
Lycopene, found in tomatoes, apricots,
oranges watermelon, and other foods is
very potent antioxidant.
Selenium is a mineral and is a component
of antioxidant enzymes.
All of this substances and other more are
helping our body to prevent and fight with
cancer.
Hope I helped!
Best wishes!

So basically I rebuild my diet. do you
have any information on the dosage one
should respect? I even consulted my
pharmasist and he wasn't sure. Asked
doctors that treated me for capillary
cancer and I recevied no straight answer.
Do you know of anywhere that has concrete
info that I can educate myself to a better
understanding?
Thank you for your reply....

There was a trial for prevention the
prostate cancer by using mineral Selenium
and Vit.E.
The results were decreased appearance of
cancer.
Selenium was taken in dosage of 200
micrograms daily.
Vitamin E 400 miligrams daily.
Before, you start to take these dosages,
please, consult your doctor.
There is a some connection of Selenium and
non-melanoma skin cancers.
If you have uncontrolled high blood
pressure, vascular disease or diabetes you
shouldn't take Vit E in this dosages,
because it is linked with appearance of
cardiovascular diseases.
I'll suggest to talk with your doctor, or
doctor of biochemical medicine or to take
this supplements in lower doses than those
I mentioned previously.
Take care!

Actually I do have high blood pressure.
Used to be controled. Since my
thyroidectomy and the synthroid
replacement meds, I have been having
difficulties adjusting. Doc had me cut
down by half the blood pressure meds (
athenol).
But, having said this, the info is indeed
interesting and for sure needs more
looking into. This is information that I
could not get from my doctor. I would have
to ask him directly about specifics to
have any feed back. I seriously appreciate
you sharing your knowledge.
Thank You
God Bless

What are the ranges of your thyroid
hormones?
Can you ask your doctor to change your
drugs?
Even ranges of thyroid hormones that are
consider normal can be not normal for you
and you may still experience symptoms.
Thyroid drugs needs to be adjusted just
for you. The right therapy is not when you
have the right numbers of your thyroid
hormones levels, but when you feel fine.
Blessings to you!

I don't remember the TH4 level the doc was
looking for. However, he did tell me that
he wanted it I think low level to prevent
the cancer cells if any to, as he says it,
stay asleep ( keep them inactive ). Right
now I am taking .175 synthroid daily. I
will check with the doc for the level
though. I hate that when I don't know
data. Leaves a blank and don't like
blanks...lol

Did you have partial thyroidectomy?
Have you experienced some side effects
from Synthroid?

Hello
The procedure was a complete
thyroidectomy. He has been adjusting the
synthroid for a year and a half now.

Lifelong treatment with thyroxine is
required after total thyroidectomy, but
the optimal dose is difficult to predict.
Some studies showed that the best
predictors of optimal T4 dose are
bodyweight and age. Subsequent use of a
weight-related algorithm improved time to
achieve normal thyroid function.
Have you experienced weight gain, low
energy, moodiness, hot flashes while
taking Synthroid?

So, you seem to know a bit about
thyroidectomy !!!! lol
there has been weight changes but nothing
out of the normal. Now you talk
moodiness!!!!???? I'll give you my wife's
number. She'll tell you a story or two I
bet lol. And low energy at times. But
nothing to stop me in the daily routines.
If I may ask, how do you know these issues
that only someone having lived it would
know ????? You're very on the point about
the details... lol
