Is This Normal of Depression, Etc...
Posted: 09-23-07 18:12pm

I have been diagnosed as having anxiety, depression and OCD. After taking two paxil pills I went to the ER, as I had a bad reaction. Now everytime I close my eyes to try and sleep, I have conversations in my head. They are good in nature, but it kind of scares me. My mom will ask me a question in my head and I will answer in my head. I think this is probably more than likely something that had went on forever, but I just noticed it with the bad paxil reaction and now with the OCD I focus on it. Before I lay down, all I'm thinking is, "I don't want that to happen again." I think it's basically just a thought process going on and for some reason I am dwelling on it. I do ponder over the what if's, days events, what went wrong and all the sudden I'm having these conversations. I'm not even asleep yet, just closing my eyes trying to sleep. It does not happen to me any other time. Is this normal?

Howdy Blue!

Well nothing is normal. The question you should ask is if it is effecting your life in a negative way. If it is, then I would suggest talking to a counselor about it. I know that I have had some pretty wacky conversations in my mind. The period right before I fall asleep is very strange and FULL of thoughts. Sometimes I have to stop trying to fall asleep and just watch TV to get my mind to BE QUIET!!!!! And yes, sometimes I even see the people Im thinking about so vividly that it actually feels like them talking.

Often times it happens before bed because all day long we are hit with activity. Our lives can be so chaotic that we dont really have time during the day to just be alone and think. Tomorrow, id say go for a nice long walk or even try to just sit still with your eyes closed in a place that you like and think. Give yourself more time when you are alone and just be. If you do have OCD, learning to calm your mind and be at peace will be a skill you use for the rest of your life.

In short...the only thing you have to worry about is if those voices start telling you do to things, or if they start ragging on you and causing you to get upset. If they are all positive in nature and not bothering you...dont let your OCD make this into a problem...you have the control.
