Extreme Pain In My Lower Back... Posted: 09-24-07 13:09pm
Me and my mom got into a wreck about 2 1/2
months ago, we were rear ended by another
truck. Since then I have been suffering
with severe lower back pain, and
when I move a certain way it brings me to
my knees in pain. I visited my family
physician, and she told me I had a knot
beside my spine, and that it along with
the pain will soon go away. It hasn't went
away yet, and when it comes it is from a
sharp shooting pain to just like I slept
in the wrong position the night before. Do
you have any idea what may be causing this
extreme pain? If so, can it be treated?

Hi there
Does the pain travel down your legs, or
does it stay in the lower back area .....
What does your physsician mean by a 'knot'
is this a muscle that has knotted ?
Sharp and shooting pains are usually
caused by trapped nerves or pulled
muscles.
However, if the pain comes and goes, it's
more likely to be trapped nerves.
I do sympatise with you, as back pain of
any kind will sometimes immobilse you
for a while causing extreme pain.
The area becomes inflammed (internal
swelling), so taking an anti-imflammatory
pain killer will help,
along with 'ice pack' to reduce the
intrenal swelling.
If this doesn't get better, then please go
back to your Doctor and insist on further
tests.
Hope this helps ....
Best wishes

Given the duration of your ongoing
symptoms and the absence of any
improvement, it might be time to start
looking a little closer for the cause. I
agree with Ginger, a "knot" is a pretty
generic term and doesn't really explain
what it is. A "knot" that's creating
neurological issues probably needs to be
defined (diagnosed) and treated.
