Sleep Disorder - Paralised in sleep but aware of everything! Posted: 09-26-07 08:25am
I have to say, im not entirely sure how to
describe what happened, but its happened
maybe 6 or 7 times since around Jan/Feb
this year, the most recent being a few
days ago. Its as if im not awake nor
asleep, it seems to be right at the point
where im nodding off. I seem to be
drifting but im still aware that im awake,
and then I feel that I wanna open my eyes
and sit up but I cant, and its almost as
if im trapped and some force is holding me
there, and I don’t have the force to
open my eyes or shout out or anything. I
even try to move my arms or legs but its
as if they have become fixed. I can
sometimes move them, but EXTREMELY slowly,
and I try to prise open my eyes with my
fingers but my arms either dont move to my
eyes or I get to my eyes and theres not
enough energy or effort in my fingers to
be able to prise my eyes open even though
it feels as though im pushing my eyes
really hard with my finger tips. Whats
strange is I can hear everything going on
around me, im totally aware of whats
happening, im aware of cars driving past
outside, anybody else in the house walking
around, watching the telly, even aware of
what programme is on, and even aware to my
computer being on etc etc so suggests im
not asleep coz I know whats going on
around me. Its scary because it feels like
u are paralised, but then after about 5 or
10 minutes I can wake up. Its really
strange. Its happened just while I was
lying on the living room floor before too,
ive even tried to put my arm up on the
sofa to hoise myself up off the floor but
I just couldn’t. Any idea what the hell
this is? Its got me really confused and a
bit scared to sleep incase it happens

This condition is called sleep paralysis
and is very common sleep disorder.
The same experience happened to me for the
couple of times in one period of my life,
years ago and never came back.
It was while trying to fall asleep, with
the same feeling of awareness of
surrounding and extreme pressure on my
body that was paralyzing me. The most
intensive pressure was felt on my throat.
I was getting the feeling that I am not
alone and I was extremely frighten.
I can relate this appearance with lack of
sleep and extreme mental and physical
exhaustion.
Try to recognize what is triggering this?
Do you have a regular healthy sleep
pattern?
Avoid stressing to much.
How old are you? I had this experience
when I was 15 or 16 years old.
