hello! i was diagnosed with asthma just
recently. Im 25 years old and i have no
asthma before or any respiratory problems
whatsoever. Now i have the asthma and
whats worse is that i have severe cough,
tightening of the chest, shortness of
breath, til i cannot breath. I am taking
my nebulizer everyday at home and my
inhaler but though it seems that it only
gives me a short period of relief and with
that, everything cycles again. i have my
attacks at home and on work place. I am
not consulting my doctor anymore cause
nothing seems to work and just kinda
frustrated of my case. I am using advair
inhaler. Want to replace it. Any
suggestions? help me improve my condition.
Thanks!

If the Meds Are Not Working It May Not Be Asthma! Posted: 09-27-07 10:24am
Hello tatzie,
I too went thru many doctors, i have both
asthma and vcd. VCD Vocal Cord
Dysfunction. I see the top specialist in
asthma and vcd.
If you are taking meds and you are not
getting relief, it could be vcd, vcd
happens because of heartburn that is
uncontrolled for many years and it causes
the vocal cords to be reactive to some of
the same issues, ie pollens, dust,
allergys.
Asthma comes from the chest, when bad it
feels like a boot on your chest. VCD comes
from the throat, you can hear and feel the
vibration, no meds will fix this problem,
sorry, its only fixed by doing breathing
exercises, go to this web page
http//:icantbreathesuspectvcd.com read
everything and get your family doctor to
send you to a lung specialist and a speech
therapist, they can teach you the
difference. all the best ww

Time to see another doctor for a second
oppinion.
It's hard to comment on your condition
without more information.
I was on Advair for 3 months. It helped
relieve my chest tightness almost
immediately - but longer term usage left
me with more symptoms than I had before.
I'm currently taking Singulair and stopped
taking the Advair.
It all depends on your symptoms and
history.
Are you seeing a pulmonary specialist?

Re When Advair Is Not Working For Asthma Posted: 10-12-07 11:55am
I had the same problem with advair doing
nothing. In fact, I ended up on prednisone
due to the ineffectiveness of advair. I
switched to Qvar and am doing 100 % better

I see a pulmonolgist and I am on Advair
500/50. I have an appointment on Monday
and going to ask him to put me back on
Singulair again. My asthma is not holding
well anymore and I am using my rescue
inhailer way too much. So, I am hoping
that the Singulair will help fill the gap.
I was on 250/50 and just last month got
bump up to the 500/50. I can tell the
difference in it's working. I also have
multitudes of airborne allergies, which
don't help.
