the Insanity Never Ends!!
Posted: 10-01-07 20:00pm

I spent the evening at the hospital with my friend, ever since she got her IUD she has been bleeding heavily and passing clots the size of baseballs and bad cramping and lately almost passing out, so i talked her into going to the hospital tonight so we got a babysitter and i took her up there, she almost wanted to turn around and go home instead of waiting to be seen. But i made her stay since we went all the way out there. Turns otu he doesnt think the IUD is causing any of it she has a cyst on her right ovary ig uess its a decent size one. SO the gynecologist is talking to her tomorow about most likely removing it laproscopically. So keep her in your thoughts, her mom had ovarian cancer and had to have a hysterectomy so we are a little nervous. So now i am babysitting her kids till who knows. So now i gotta call the girl scout leader to tell her i cant go to the meeting. So another thing iv ebeen totally slacking on the control panel, just the insanity of this past month lol. I am not sure when ill get aroudn to it its about 3am here so i really gotta go to bed here very shortly. But whoever has some of the forums i have can you give me a hand please till things calm down a little bit? thanks bunches

yeah its like neverending, they might be doing surgery on her today though, her husband called earlier to let me know the cyst is 7cm 3 cm is the hard outer part and 4cm of liquid , they are gonna look at it again this afternoon to see if its changed any or shrank, if not then she will be having surgery today to remove the cyst and possible her right ovary as well. So i dunno how long ill have the kids for but i dont mind it, as longas i can get the 4 to nap at the same time so i can wash some dishes and sweep!

How long has your friend had the IUD? I'm only asking because I got my IUD inserted last September and it was VERY painful. The cramping and bleeding lasted for nearly 7 months. I asked my doctor about it and he seemed to not really care about how I felt. Rolling Eyes
Cysts run in my family along with a lot of other female problems/cancers. Just wondering.

It isnt the IUD, well the dr doesnt think so, because it was in place, and she was bleeding way to much even so. He beleives the cyst is what was causing all the bleeding and pain. Kinda scary, she is in surgery now most likely. the clinic on base assumed it was the IUD and nothing serious but we went to the hospital instead and he doesnt think hes removing the IUD, they are gonna do the surgery and remove the cyst asa whole and her right ovary probably since the cyst is covering most of the ovary. Its weird that they would do it soo soon though because most wait a few mths to see if it shrinks but since all this pain started only about 3-4 wks ago i guess the size of it concerns them so they are removing it today.
But wow i cant wait to have my house back and just sit in here and not go anywhere its just like constant moving out and about , emergencies etc. But im hopinh it all goes well for her and its nothing but a benign cyst.

I know her pain wasn't caused by the IUD, it is the cyst. I was wondering how long she had the IUD before you took her to the hospital. I'm worried about cysts for myself. My sister had cysts and my mother had to have a full hysterectomy because of cancer. I think I'm being a worry wort but I get terrible cramping. No more bleeding, but the bleeding didn't stop until recently and it had lasted for 7 months. It wasn't like spotting or anything, it was like a heavy period, straight the whole time. No breaks.

the pain started about a week after the IUD was put in place, but the cramps werent constand they came and go.
But they just did the surgery they found a tumor and 2 cysts, i beleive she said it is cancerous but im not gonna say for sure because she was all groggy and stuff from surgery so all ima say is they found a tumor as well, she will know more tomorow when the dr talks to her though but wow its scary she is only 22! It just scares me and shocks me but the drs said it was probably growing for 1-2 yrs but i would think being pregnant and having a d and c done that they would have noticed it during any of those times ya know?

WOW! You would think they would have seen SOMETHING out of the ordinary by that time. 2 years... jeeze. I wish her the best. Hopefully it wasn't malignant. I will keep her in my thoughts.

yeah, she will know more and be more coherent tomorow, she prob heard tumor and thought cancer automatically, in the craziness of it all so im not gonna jump to conclusions on it, her husband didnt say anything about it being cancerous when i talked to him after her so she just might not be thinking straight at the moment since she is really upset. So all we can do is hope all is fine and there is nothing serious going on.

Marianne, what kind of cancer did you mom have? Did she have follow up treatments (chemo? radiation?)?

Tink, fibroid tumors sound malicious, but they aren't. Well, yes, they don't feel great and they cause a lot of dumb bleeding (grr, fibroids!) - but they are not cancerous nor will they ever really be cancerous.

What kind of surgery did your friend have?

im not sure, they were gonna do it laproscopically to remove the cysts, they only saw one cyst on the vaginal ultrasound but i guess it looked off to them so they opened her up a bit more. They pulled it out as a whole but when they got in there they found the tumor and 2 cysts. All in all the drs are glad they did the surgery when they did though, and hopefully she was just not thinking right when she mentioned cancer. Im hoping she will be abit more clearer headed tomorow after she talkes to the gynecologist.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of cancer my mother had. All I know for sure is that it was in her uterus and she got ALL her woman parts removed. She didn't go through chemo.

My maternal grandmother and maternal aunt and maternal cousin (who was 22 at the time) all had breast cancer. My cousin's was the worst. She went through a couple of stints with chemo. I don't wish that on anyone. It was very painful for her.

My mother's family has cancer running through it's blood like a stream has fish. I get paranoid all the time that I am going to die from some form of cancer. It's really scary knowing the family history.

A lot of families have cancer history. It sucks ~ but in all my research on breast cancer (a LOT of research, by the way), having a family history of breast cancer does not make you more or less likely to get it. You can have the 'breast cancer gene' but even people without that will get breast cancer. It is just one of those things, sadly.

Uterine cancer? I'm sorry about that. The good news is, if she didn't have chemo/radiation, it hadn't spread. So YAY for that.

Tink: I hope it is just normal functional cysts that they removed from your friend! Smile
I wouldn't wish cancers on anyone.

I know that feeling. My really great friend was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer when she wasn't even 30 years old. She was also pregnant at the time. She had a mastectomy and chemotherapy during her pregnancy (child is fine). Plus her other breast removed to prevent future cancer and another round of chemo, plus radiation.

Sometimes life is just not fair.
